Dr Oz: Total Body Overhaul
Dr Oz used Integrative Medicine to outline his latest plan, a 10-Day Total Body Overhaul that you can start to help reboot your digestive system and reboot your body from the inside out. The stomach and intestines are supposed to absorb nutrients and evacuate toxins, but sometimes gut toxins can build up, resulting in inflammation, disease, and fatigue.
However, the world of alternative medicine believes that you can flush out those toxins to find more energy and stop gaining weight. To help explain the ins and outs of this 10-day plan, he invited Dr Tieraona Low Dog and Dr Jim Nicolai to share their expertise.
Dr Low Dog said the average American drinks too much alcohol and consumes too many carbohydrates and processed foods. Dr Nicolai hoped that this 10-day strategy would help people feel better, and maybe reduce their aches and pains.
Dr Oz: Eliminate Toxic Waste
The first step forward is to eliminate the toxic waste from your daily routine. That means it’s time to let go of processed foods, farmed fish, and non-organic meat and dairy products. Instead, focus more on plant-derived proteins such as Beans and Legumes. Did you know they can actually have more Protein than meat?
Dr Oz: Drink the Rainbow
On average, it is recommended that a person eat seven to 13 daily servings of fruit and vegetables. But depending on your daily routine and other factors, you may need more than this. To pack more of a punch, try drinking the rainbow by adding more nutrients to a daily smoothie? Dr Nicolai’s version included greens, carrots, berries, chia, flaxseed, almond milk, and vegan protein powder.
Dr Oz: Microgreens Vitamin Source
Dr Low Dog said you can get more vitamins into your daily diet by incorporating Microgreens, which would make a great smoothie ingredient. Microgreens come from plants just forming their first leaves, which studies have found contain more concentrated flavor as well as nutrition. They are also great as a salad garnish.
Dr Oz: What is Burdock Root?
Burdock Root comes from Japan, where it is a very popular vegetable. It is rich in Potassium and Dietary Fiber, and it is also great for stabilizing blood sugar, fighting inflammation, and losing weight. One study tested Dried Burdock in a team form for patients with Osteoarthritis of the knee. They experienced pain relief and the concoction even reduced the markers of inflammation in the blood. Look for it at health food or specialty stores.
Dr Oz: Dandelion Root Tea Natural Detox
Dr Low Dog said that you should drink a cup of Dandelion Root Tea half an hour before dinnertime. This will get the liver enzymes going to help your body naturally detox. Plus, it stimulates bile production. Just a heads up: this can have a laxative effect for some users.
Dr Oz: Walking Meditation
Dr Nicolai said that we can also focus on our breath in the quest for health. Most of us probably know of the health benefits of Meditation, but we don’t always make the time. Dr Nicolai said we can do Walking Meditation, which is also a great way to get in some light exercise.
He shared his four-step breathing technique with Dr Oz. Breathe in four little breaths and then breathe out four little breaths. Alternately, inhale for four seconds and exhale for four seconds. Time the breaths to your steps as you walk.
