Dr Oz: Why Do Friends Turn On Each Other? Undermining Weight Loss

Dr Oz: Best Friends Sabotage

Dr Oz’s show focused on Toxic Sabotagers, the people in our lives who do not support us in health and diet goals. They may be inviting you out for pizza or finding another way to throw you off your plan. That’s the dynamic between best friends Toni and Tynetta, who spend most of their time together, as co-workers and off the clock. But they have hit a rough patch with their new weight loss program.

Dr Oz: Why Do Friends Turn On Each Other? Undermining Weight Loss

Are you preventing the weight loss of a friend or family? Maybe you are the victim and someone is doing it to you. What is the problem in your relationship?

Dr Wade jumped in to give her perspective on the relationship between the two friends. She said that Toni is not blameless, especially when it comes to actions such as putting candy in front of her friend at work. “You definitely are playing a role in undermining her,” she said.

The two started their workout plan together, but now there is a winner and a loser between the two of them. Dr Wade said that they are not both benefitting from their weight loss plan together. She thinks that Toni is constantly pushing all the blame onto her friend instead of taking responsibility for whatever role she might have in sabotaging her friend.

“I see what she’s saying, and I won’t bring [candy] in,” Toni said. But feelings were also important, according to Dr Wade, who wanted to get the women to look at their relationship and search for the root of whatever deep problem has put them at odd with one another.

Why would friends stick around in this environment? That’s what Doctor Oz wondered. But Dr Wade said they could both do more to be supportive and care about each other’s feelings. The ladies seemed noncommittal in agreeing to do that.

Do you have someone who is constantly sabotaging your health goals? Tell me about it in the comments.
