Dr Oz: Agave Nectar Health Warning
Dr. Oz has warned us all about sugar and artificial sweeteners, but what if he told you there is one all-natural sweetener that could actually be worse for you than regular sugar? Agave Nectar is not only an alternative sweetener he has recommended to you, but he even made the switch himself because it was supposed to be better for you than sugar. New research has Dr. Oz rethinking his Agave Nectar recommendation, so maybe you should, too.
Dr Oz: Is Agave Nectar Safe for Diabetics?
Dr. Natalie Azar says when we hear the word “natural” we automatically assume it is good for us, but we are now learning that agave contains a high amount of fructose, which can cause health problems because it is not handled well by the body. One of the concerns shared by Dr. Oz and Dr. Azar is that agave is being marketed as safe for Diabetics when in fact it could be very dangerous in the long term because it could lead to insulin resistance.
Dr Oz: Agave Nectar Increases Risk for Heart Disease
Dr. Oz has completely changed his opinion of Agave Nectar and now wants it out of your kitchen immediately. Aside from the reason already shared, he says there are a couple others for you to consider.
- Agave causes weight gain because it decreases insulin, which is a hormone we need in order to suppress our appetite and not overeat.
- Agave also raises triglyceride levels, which will increase your risk for heart disease.
Dr Oz: Raw Honey Sweetener Recommendation
Dr. Oz says the bottom line is that when it comes to sugar or any sweetener, less is more, so he says to train yourself to use less sugar. For the times when you need to satisfy your sweet tooth Dr. Oz recommends raw honey because it is the only natural sweetener that provides health benefits and it contains less fructose than most agave.
