Dr Oz: Instagram Health Food Trend
Have you noticed bread on Instagram looking a little more orange than usual? According to Dr Oz, sweet potato toast is the new health food trend taking over social media. Over one million people have shared their recipes, but Dr Oz was able to track down the creator. Kelsey Preciado, an Instagram foodie, explained that she was on an elimination diet where she had to cut out all grains. She had seen a recipe online that called for sliced sweet potatoes to be cooked in a pan with oil, but thought her toaster would be a much quicker and cleaner tool.
Turns out she stumbled upon a health food that’s perfect for beginners and professionals alike! Slice off the ends of your sweet potato and then hold the potato vertically and slice slice the skin on. You want it thin enough to cook all the way through, but not too thick. Toast until golden/brown spots appear on the sliced sweet potato. Kelsey likes to top her’s with avocado, almond butter and banana, or chicken salad.
Ashley’s new favorite is her sweet potato toast tacos! She tops a slice of toast with shredded chicken, black beans, avocado, and salsa. Yum!
Dr Oz: Upcoming Trends For 2017
Dr Oz then welcomed Jason Wachob, founder of MindBodyGreen, the website that gets 10 million visitors every month. He explained that they will often see products come through 6 months to a year before they even come out. They will look at a variety of products and then come up with their world-famous trend report. One thing he believes will “fizzle out” in 2017 is sensory deprivation tanks. But what about the things that will become popular in 2017?
First was mushrooms and mushroom powder. Jason and the people at MindBodyGreen believe mushroom powder is going to be a big health food trend in the next year. You can add them to smoothies and drinks to add protein and give a health boost, without a strong flavor.
Another idea that will blow up is personalized nutrition. There are facilities that take your body’s unique information, such as DNA or stool samples, to come up with the right nutrition plan for you. Women’s social clubs will also blow up in 2017, as a way to fight stress. Additionally, Mezcal is a plant-based alcohol believed to be the new go-to drink for the upcoming year. Plus, it can reportedly help with digestion!
