So the best way to beat illness is to make your body strong before the illness comes your way. That’s your best defense.
Dr. Oz: Keeping Your Energy Up
Dr. Oz introduced Jayme and David, a couple with kids who are always tired and feeling sick. David is a trauma nurse and his schedule is very intense. The two of them have four kids 10 and under and Jayme is always driving them places, with lots of school and church activities. The two of them have to sit down and write down their schedule for the week.
At least one of their kids is sick often. At the end of the day, they’re always really tired. They want more energy and they want to be able to stay healthy.
Jayme said the last time she felt really good was probably two years ago when her husband took her on a cruise. David said she really didn’t feel good until the fourth day.
Dr. Oz: Low Vitamin D Can Make You Sick
Dr. Oz and Dr. Weil took them to the Truth Tube to test their levels. They looked at their vitamin levels, which were fine, except for their vitamin D. Vitamin D is key for optimum immunity. This might be an important factor in their susceptibility to infections. Their kids are also low in vitamin D.
Dr. Oz: Low CRP Can Affect Your Energy
There’s also something called CRP, C-Reactive Protein. You want to be under 1 for CRP in order to be healthy. Jayme’s was 10.7. Dr. Oz said usually when you’re feeling sick and run down all the time, your body is likely high in CRP.
Dr. Oz: Adjust Your Diet
Jayme and David and their family have a lot of carbs and protein and hardly any fruits and veggies. Dr. Weil said this is a problem. He said they’re also eating a lot of animal fat. Instead, Dr. Weil wanted them to eat a lot of fruits and veggies, whole grain carbs, and healthy fats.
Dr. Weil had a lot more to say about his plan to help Jayme and David change their diet later in the show, when he discussed how to boost immunity.
