Dr Oz: Biggest Loser, Dolvett Quince
The Biggest Loser has helped hundreds of people slim down and get healthy. Celebrity trainer Dolvett Quince was thrilled to join Dr Oz to share some of the biggest secrets from the show. He first acknowledged that one of the biggest misconceptions is that they teach people to hate working out, when in fact they teach people that it’s possible, no matter their size.

Dr Oz then shared another Biggest Loser secret: contestants are required to cook their own meals. There are no professional chefs or catering services for the show. They use professional nutritionists who help the contestants learn how to make good choices and eat cleanly. For example, they blend up smoothies with spinach or make spinach chips the same way kale chips are made.
Dolvett also really likes to use cayenne pepper to season his food or curb a sugar craving. Dr Oz likes to use vinegar as well, because it helps regulate blood sugar, even after a big meal.
Another Biggest Loser secret is, if you’re going to cheat, do it in the afternoon. Dolvett explained that if you cheat right away in the morning, it can set a bad tone for the rest of the day. If Dolvett cheats on his diet, he’ll go for carrot cake. Dr Oz then surprised Dolvett with a carrot cake cupcake from a woman in the audience.
Dr Oz: Greenlight Your Goals
After making Dolvett flex to show off his biceps, Dr Oz asked him to explain what it means to greenlight your goals. He explained further that you make up your mind about specific goals you set daily. You should use concrete goals like doing a certain number of squats per day or eating a certain amount of vegetables. He suggested grading yourself and keep track. Print off a calendar and place it on the fridge.
On the days you eat right, exercise, take your supplements, and drink enough water, give yourself a check mark. On the days you don’t do well, make them with an X. It should be more encouragement to get back to a good day, to fill your calendar with as many good days as possible. It’s a visual reminder on the most commonly opened door in your home.
Dr Oz: What Happens When Biggest Loser Contestants Leave The Ranch
Getting back to The Biggest Loser, because contestants work out 6-9 hours per day, Dr Oz wanted to know what happens when they leave the ranch. Dolvett explained that it’s impossible for them to keep that up, which is why they shoot for regular, consistent workouts that are more realistic.
As for Dolvett’s motivational mantra, he said “how you do anything is how you do everything.”
Dr Oz: At-Home Exercises To Get Healthy
Dolvett then shared one of his favorite exercises, mountain climbers. He got down into a plank position, and then brought his knees into his chest one at a time, repetitively, while holding himself up on his hands. Think about doing a bit of a “running” motion. Those are mountain climbers!
Dolvett also loves squats, because they use big muscles to burn a lot of calories. Squat down and press your arms straight out as you go. Then hold the squat position as long as you can before popping back up. Finally, was the boat. Lie down on your back and sit up halfway, engaging your core to hold yourself up. Lift your legs off the ground and balance, making a wide “V” with your body. Think about creating the shape of a boat with your body!
Dr Oz: 10-Minute Workout To Boost Metabolism
Then, to show how you can boost your metabolism in just ten minutes, Dr Oz, welcomed The Biggest Loser trainer Jen Widerstrom. Jen believes you should work out in the morning for the biggest metabolism boost, but you should workout whenever is best for you and your body. She also explained that in order to speed up your metabolism, you have to have lean, hard, healthy muscle. Even just ten minutes a day can make a big difference.
Lie down on your back and then straighten your legs up into the air. Hold your arms straight up and lean forward, holding your hands in between your thighs, crunching your abs. That’s called a straddle sit-up. Then, try the “dirty dog” by getting on your hands and knees. Lift one knee out to the side and extend that leg, as if you’re a dog peeing on a fire hydrant! Then bend at the knee, bring it back in and back down, then repeat!
Third, try a squat hop! Squat and hold it, then stand and do a little hop before going back down into a squat. Try these moves every day to build muscle and give your metabolism a boost.
