Dr. Oz: Past Lives
Dr. Oz talked on his show today about past lives. Some people under hypnosis are able to recall names and places from a distant past life. Past life regression dates back to the 6th century B.C., but just 25 years ago, Ivy League-trained psychiatrist Dr. Brian Weiss introduced regression therapy to the mainstream.
The medical community was skeptical, but many doctors and therapists are using it today to find the causes of phobias and unhealthy habits. Does past life regression hold the cure to what ails us in this life?
Dr. Oz: Are Past Lives Real?
Dr. Oz even did a past life regression with Dr. Weiss on Oprah many years ago. Dr. Linda Backman is a psychologist who uses past life regression in her practice. She said this is not a mainstream practice, not even for a psychologist. She said she’s found that everybody has a soul that has had life after life to learn and grow. Our past lives impact our current life.
Dr. Oz wondered how this wasn’t a trick of the mind or a hidden memory of this life coming to the surface. Dr. Backman said she’s found that when the client goes into regression, the story is incredibly detailed. The emotions are very real and the clothing and scene are detailed. The story moves like they’re re-experiencing the past life.
Scientists have studied the phenomenon of reincarnation to try to make sense this. Dr. Backman said this research has found that we have a soul and we keep having life after life in order to learn.
Dr. Oz: Recalling a Past Life
Doctors studied Latrice during her past life regression. They injected her with a radioactive substance to analyze her neurological activity using nuclear imaging during the past life regression.
Latrice recalled being a little girl in 1907. Her grandfather was bad at her for doing something she wasn’t supposed to do. Whatever she’s done, he’s forgiven her for. Dr. Backman asked her to move ahead in her past life. She remembered being 15 watching butterflies in a forest. Next, she was sitting with her mother and someone came in. He wasn’t very nice. She remembered crying herself to sleep, because she wanted to be happy.
Then she remembered getting married outside, watching the butterflies. On the last day of her life, everyone was there. She was very old. She was able to tell them she loved them. She remembered that her life had bad and good, but it ended on a good note.
Dr. Oz: Learning From Your Past Lives
Latrice joined Dr. Backman and Dr. Oz in the studio. Latrice said she really did feel all of the emotions. She went in to discover her phobia of bugs. While she didn’t find the answer to her phobia to bugs, she did find purpose and a place where she felt like she could center.
Latrice said the day of the mean man taught her something. That day, he was very angry and forceful with her mom. Latrice in her past life cried on the bed. Her mother came in and told her that she shouldn’t worry about it because it had nothing to do with her. Latrice realized in her current life, she takes on other people’s problems as her own. This past life regression taught her to think before doing that, so she could center herself on her own life.
Dr. Oz looked at Latrice’s past life brain scans later in the show.
