Dr Oz: Are Health Foods Making You Sick?
Dr Oz was joined by Dr Steven Gundry, who argued that the foods we have been led to believe are healthiest for us, are actually the foods making us sick. In his controversial new book “Dr Gundry’s Diet Evolution: Turn off the Genes That Are Killing You and Your Waistline” Dr Gundry claims fruits, legumes, night shade vegetables, and whole grains may be making us sick and gaining weight. Fortunately, he developed some hacks that can help negate the bad effects so that we can still enjoy the foods most people think are pretty good for us.
Dr Oz: Remove Peel & Seeds From Nightshade Vegetables
First, Dr Gundry recommended you peel and de-seed all the night shade vegetables you eat. Dr Gundry explained that Italians and the French have been doing it for hundreds of years. Just score the top of a tomato and put it into boiling water for about 30 seconds. Then you can easily peel the tomato. Then quarter the tomato and remove the seeds. You’re left with a tomato that’s perfectly safe to eat.
Dr Oz: Choose Sourdough Bread

According to Dr Steve Gundry, you should choose sourdough bread over whole wheat bread for several reasons. Will you make the switch? (lizdavenportcreative / Flickr)
After arguing that whole grains are actually loaded with potentially harmful lectin, Dr Gundry wanted to make it clear what bread he recommended we eat. He claims sourdough is actually the best. Non whole-grain sour dough he says is best because it has bacteria and yeast that actually eat gluten and other lectins. Studies show that people who eat sourdough bread have a much less glycemic index response and have better health.
Dr Oz: White Bread Is Healthier Than Wheat Bread?
Traditional cultures have always had starter systems. In America, we no longer use yeast or other bacterial starters to raise our bread. Now, most commercial bread is raised with an agent called transglutaminase. According to Dr Gundry, if you’re going to eat bread, make sure it’s been raised with yeast and eat white bread instead of whole wheat. Whole wheat not only has gluten but it also has wheat germ agglutinin, or WGA.
Dr Gundry also made a point to say that the purpose of bread is to deliver olive oil to the mouth. He is also the author of “The Plant Paradox.”
