Dr. Oz: Bread and Milk
Dr. Oz talked to comedian Vic Dibitetto, who had a viral video recently. In the video, he’s freaking out because he has to get bread and milk before a snowstorm. The video is approximately 45 seconds of him shouting “I got to get the bread and milk” while filming himself with a smartphone and driving, followed by a shot of him drinking milk from the carton in the snow.

Dr Oz talked about the difference between skim milk and enhanced skim milk, defined what designer milk is, and discussed why whole milk is good for us. (striatic / flickr)
Is this funny? I guess some people thought it was. This video served as Dr. Oz’s introduction to a segment where he shared what milk labels really mean.
Dr. Oz: Skim Milk Vs. Enhanced Skim Milk
Dr. Oz also introduced an actual expert, Monica Reinagel, a nutritionist, who explained the difference between skim milk and enhanced skim milk. Skim milk is nonfat and enhanced skim milk has extra protein and calcium. They do that by adding dry milk powder to it.
Dr. Oz: Does Whole Milk Have a Lot of Fat?
Monica Reinagel said that a lot of people think whole milk has a lot of fat in it. People are afraid of it for that reason. However, whole milk is still almost 97 percent fat free. It doesn’t have any fat removed from it, however.
Whole milk might have 6 teaspoons of fat in a whole quart. 2 percent milk might have 4 teaspoons of fat and skim milk might have just a little bit of fat. However, the more fat you take out, the more milk sugar you’re left with. Dr. Oz recommended everyone drink whole milk.
Dr. Oz: What is Designer Milk?
Monica Reinagel said that there’s a lot of designer milks out there now. These milks are made with regular milk. The milk is taken through a special filtration process to dial down things like milk sugar and dial up things like calcium.
One of them is called FairLife and it’s made by Cocoa-Cola. Monica Reinagel said that milk might be a food that doesn’t need to be improved. It’s also going to cost more and it’s a little concerning to have a milk product made by a soft drink company.
You can catch Vic Dibitetto in Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, which comes out April 17, 2015.
