Dr. Oz: Tony Robbins ‘Money: Master the Game’ Review
Dr. Oz welcomed bestselling author and guru Tony Robbins to his show, who talked about how to be more financially healthy. He said money is an expression of power in our lives, defining what we can and can’t do. For many people, when they feel out of control, they get into bad habits like overeating, smoking, or drinking. It can also affect intimate relationships and mess up other aspects of life. This can manifest into physical health issues.
Tony Robbins recently wrote a book called Money: Master the Game. He said over the course of his life, he’s been passionately trying to find out how to make people change their lives as quickly as possible. There’s only a few areas that affect the quality of your life. There’s your intimate relationships, your physical health, your emotions, and then money. Tony said he grew up in a tough financial environment, so when he saw people losing their homes in 2008, he wanted to do something.
He said he’s coached one of the top 10 financial traders in the world, a multi-billionaire who has never lost money in the 21 years Tony has coached him. Tony Robbins wanted to learn from him and other financial experts to learn the seven key steps to financial wellness, so he can help people.
Dr. Oz: Change Your Mind to Fix Your Problem
Tony Robbins said that if you’re dealing with debt that’s greater than your income, you need to make a plan in your head immediately. You need to stop telling yourself a story and start acting. He said a lot of people have found winning strategies for things, but haven’t executed them. Or they don’t start, because they have a story in their head that’s stopping them. For instance, in weight loss, you might tell yourself you’ve tried every diet, so why bother? These limiting beliefs hold you back.
He said as an example, when you first fall in love, everything in the world is good and it doesn’t matter when you’re poor. When you’re angry at someone, suddenly everything they’ve ever done comes to mind and they’re the worst person. These are examples of states of mind that create a shift. If you focus on the things in life you can change and make a strategy, you can change your state of mind about finances in a similar way.
Dr. Oz: Paying for College
Dr. Oz introduced Tony Robbins to audience member Theresa, who lives paycheck to paycheck and has twins in college and another child going to college next year. She said she feels like a “hamster on a wheel.” Tony Robbins said she had to stop telling herself that she’s a hamster on a wheel.
He also told a story about a man who earned $14,000 a year and was worth $70 million when he was 70 years old. How did he do this? The reason why is because he put 20 percent of his income into an investment account with compound interest. Over time, it accumulated into that amount. Theresa promised to spend 10 to 15 percent of her income in this way and Tony said he would hook her up with a life coach.
Dr. Oz: Facing Your Financial Problems
Dr. Oz introduced Tony Robbins to another woman from the audience, who has three boys and is terrified of getting her bills from the mailbox. She wondered how to overcome this issue. Tony Robbins said she has to start small and she needs someone who will kick her into gear and act. He told her to surround herself with girlfriends to help support her. Tony said he was going to get her a life coach, too.
