Dr Oz: Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Yellow Dye #5 & #6 Food Safety Warning!

Dr Oz: Artificial Dye Warning

Dr. Oz has a warning about one of our favorite comfort foods. If you have ever eaten or fed Kraft Macaroni and Cheese to your family, you need to see what he and his guests had to say about the artificial dyes being used to add color this product! You will think twice before adding it to your shopping cart!

Dr Oz: Yellow Dye #5 & #6 Banned In Europe

Do you regularly feed your kids boxed macaroni and cheese? Is Kraft a brand you normally purchase? If so, have you ever taken a moment and looked at the list of ingredients? If you look closely you will see artificial colors in that list, and more specifically you will notice yellow dye #5 and #6, both of which have been banned in European countries. Dr. Oz wants to know why they are still being used in Kraft Macaroni and Cheese here in the United States!

Dr Oz: Are Artificial Colors Made From Petroleum?

Dr Oz: Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Yellow Dye #5 & #6 Food Safety Warning!

Dr Oz shared a warned about Kraft Mac & Cheese! This kid favorite is made with yellow dyes #5 and #6 which have been shown to cause hyperactivity in children!

Food bloggers Lisa Leake and Vani Hari are on a combined mission to raise awareness regarding the amount of artificial ingredients being used in processed foods. They are especially concerned with Kraft Macaroni and Cheese because the ingredients used to add artificial color, yellow #5 and #6, are actually petroleum-based and offer no nutritional value to the product. They do, however, pose a huge health risk, especially for children. In the United Kingdom those dyes are banned and instead paprika extract and beta-carotene are used because they are natural sources to color food while posing no added health risks. Kraft said that safety is their highest concern, and since those artificial dyes are approved by the FDA they are following the required guidelines in the manufacturing of their products. They claim to have products with more “natural” ingredients for those consumers who are more health-conscious, but Lisa and Vani pointed out that the ones geared toward kids which have cartoon characters on the box still contain yellow #5 and #6.

Dr Oz: Hyperactivity In Children Caused By Artificial Dyes

Michael Jacobson told Dr. Oz companies choose to use yellow dyes #5 and #6 because they are a cheap way to add color to foods. He said that while the manufacture should not be using these dyes, he also believes it is the responsibility of the FDA to get rid of them and stop allowing them in our food supply. He noted studies that have shown yellow dye #5 and #6 to cause hyperactivity in children with the FDA acknowledging that fact as recent as two years ago, but they have still done nothing to remove them from the foods we purchase here in the United States.

Dr Oz: Artificial Dye Recommendation

Dr. Oz believes that we should put the health of our children first by removing artificial dyes from their diet. He also pleaded with all manufacturers to proactively remove these harmful ingredients from their products or prove, without a doubt, they are safe.

A great alternative to Kraft macaroni and cheese is Annie’s Homegrown Organic brand.

If Kraft doesn’t remove the artificial colors from their macaroni and ‘cheese’, specifically, there is Annie’s brand found in grocery store natural foods aisles that uses Natural coloring, like the UK version shown on the show. And they were on sale for $1 a box recently! Let’s tell companies we want to eat (and feed kids) FOOD.

Your statements above are for the most part FALSE :

    – “Yellow Dye #5 & #6 Banned In Europe” – Simply not true, look it up please.

    – “In the United Kingdom those dyes are banned” – no it’s not, they’ve asked for a VOLUNTARY REMOVAL … big difference.

    – “Hyperactivity In Children Caused By Artificial Dyes” – close but still not true, it can aggravate already EXISTING hyperactivity in children but it has NOT been shown to cause it.

    – Sadly you have no idea how many thousands of products are made with these dyes, and your intake from Mac & Cheese is nothing compared to what you get from aspirin, vitamin capsules, make up, deodorant or hundreds of other products I know YOU use.

Dr. Oz needs to be taken with a grain of salt as he loves to embellish and use pseudo science to try and scare / impress.

So please take the time to learn what it is you’re trying to say, because when you tell lies and misinform people you are not helping anyone except the person who for what ever reason decided to ATTACK Kraft and used fear mongering to get a huge herd of “sheep” to help them.
