Dr. Oz has a great episode on April 23, 2015, when he breaks his silence to face his critics directly. Dr. Oz and his show have been in the headlines a lot over the past few months and his critics have been very vocal in denouncing his show and the information he’s given on it. Now, find out what Dr. Oz has to say to them. Check it all out below!
Dr. Oz Breaks His Silence
When it comes to The Dr. Oz Show, many people have strong opinions. If you’re a fan, you know how often people roll their eyes when you say, “I heard about it on Dr. Oz.” I think there’s a perception that a daytime medical show may not always be accurate, especially considering there’s so much space to fill on the air.
But there is at least some truth to that perception. Last summer, Dr. Oz came under fire for promoting magic weight loss pills on his show. He even appeared before Congress to answer for what he said and why he said it.
This season, he’s been playing it a little safer, focusing more on weight loss strategies rooted in the traditional methods of eating less and exercising more. But he definitely still has had his share of controversy. On April 21, 2015, for example, he had on Suzanne Somers, who argued that black mold is to blame for some of the most prevalent mental and immune disorders facing people today, an opinion that I think is pretty reckless, considering she offered very few facts to back up what she was saying.
Is Dr. Oz Promoting Quack Treatments?
But most notably, there’s Dr. Oz’s stance on GMOs and pesticides that has caused some controversy. On Friday, April 17, 2015, a group of 10 prominent doctors wrote to Columbia University, where he works as a surgeon, calling for his resignation. They accused him of “promoting quack treatments and cures in the interest of personal financial gain.” They also accused him of resisting GMOs baselessly. Dr. Oz says he’s not against GMOs, but he is for more thorough labeling of GMOs.
Are They Trying to Violate Dr. Oz’s Rights?
In a clip from the show, Dr. Oz accused them of trying to violate his First Amendment right to free speech and said, “So I vow to you right here and right now: we will not be silenced. We will not give in.”
On April 23, 2015, Dr. Oz plans to address the 10 doctors directly. About two thirds of his show will be set aside to discuss the controversy.
Whatever happens, it’s sure to be good TV! Tune into Dr. Oz on April 23, 2015, for all of this and so much more! And be sure to let us know your opinion of the controversy in the comments!
