Dr Oz: Apples Foster Recipe for Sugar Addicts
While discussing sugar addiction, Dr Oz revealed a quiz to help viewers determine their individual sugar addiction type. He then shared recipes to help each type overcome their weakness for sweet foods, by replacing them with healthier options that taste just as good, if not better. For those who answered mostly number 3’s on the quiz, the autopilot sugar addicts, Sam Talbot from Top Chef and author of “100% Real,” shared a recipe specifically for them.

Dr Oz: Apple Foster with Coconut & Whiskey Caramel Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:

Sam Talbot from Top Chef joined Dr Oz to share a recipe for Apples Foster for those who seem to struggle with sugar addiction and hidden sources of sugar. (sharisberries / Flickr)
- 6 tbsp coconut sugar
- 3/4 C coconut milk
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp whiskey
- 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
- 2 firm apples – cut into 1/4- to 1/2-inch thick rings or wedges (about 2 C)
Dr Oz: Apples Foster Whiskey Recipe
Directions:
- Melt the butter over medium heat in a medium skillet
- Whisk in the sugar then remove the skillet from the heat
- Add the whiskey and carefully ignite the fumes right above the mixture using a long multipurpose lighter
- Let the flames die down on their own
- Place the skillet back over the heat and pour in the coconut milk, cinnamon, and lemon juice
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook, stirring constantly, about 4 minutes, until the mixture has the texture of caramel
- Add the apples and cook 8-10 minutes, stirring often, until the apples are tender
- Pour over warm biscuits, dairy-free ice cream, or gelato
