Dr Oz: Best Oil for Making Popcorn
Dr. Oz says while he has always recommended olive oil because of its amazing health benefits, it is not the only oil everyone uses. Today it might be time for an oil change because there are three other oils that offer nutritional benefits you could be missing out on!
Dr Oz: Oil Smoke Points Destroy Nutrients & Cause Harm

Brierley Wright recommends Grapeseed Oil for making popcorn because it has a smoke point and delicate flavor.
Brierley Wright of EatingWell magazine says plant oils are naturally cholesterol-free and are often a great source of antioxidants and Vitamin E, which fight and prevent disease. She says many people make mistakes when they cook with oils, however, because they often do not understand smoke points. When some oils reach certain temperatures the beneficial compounds actually begin to degrade and harmful substances are created. Bierley says the key is to heat your cooking oil just until it shimmers because as soon as it starts to smoke it is no longer good for your health.
The second mistake people often make is using too much oil. Brierley says you stick to just 2 tablespoons per day.

Dr Oz: Grapeseed Oil Review
Grapeseed Oil is the best oil for fighting cancer and it has a high smoking point and light flavor, which makes it a great option to use when popping popcorn.
Dr Oz: Blueberry, Banana & Flaxseed Smoothie Recipe
Dr. Oz says Flaxseed Oil is the most fragile, so it is not the best to cook with, but it is best for getting your daily dose of Omega-3s. Brierley Wright explains that flaxseed oil has a very low smoking point so cooking it would damage the beneficial nutrients it contains. Instead she recommends adding it to a smoothie, which is a great way to to start your day and get your heart-healthy Omega-3s.
Here is what you need:
- 1/2 cup frozen or fresh blueberries
- 1 medium banana
- 8 oz almond milk
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 1 tsp flaxseed oil
Blend everything together until smooth, pour into a glass and enjoy!
