Dr Oz: Top Chefs Favorite Grocery Foods
Have you ever wondered what top chefs buy when they visit the supermarket? Thanks to Dr Oz, you don’t have to wonder anymore. He asked four chefs about their top five favorite supermarket foods, hearing first from Rocco DiSpirito and Candice Kumai.
According to Rocco, the biggest mistake someone can make is going in without a list. Candice agreed, but also said it’s not a good idea to shop when you’re hungry.
Dr Oz: Chicken Thighs Over Chicken Breasts

As for their favorite foods, both Rocco and Candace agreed that you should go with bone-in chicken thighs because they’re cheaper and more flavorful than boneless chicken breasts. When shopping for chicken thighs, look for thighs that aren’t too wet and thighs that are firm and pink. Look for clear plastic wrap packaging.
Chicken thighs are not only more flavorful, but more nutritious as well. When cooking chicken thighs, Rocco likes to start with cold oil in a cold pan so that the skin sticks to the pan so it doesn’t bubble when it cooks. Then all you need for flavor is salt and pepper, capers, and parsley. After 10 minutes on the stove and a couple minutes in the oven, you have chicken that’s easy and delicious!
Dr Oz: Soba Noodles & Japanese Meal Idea
Next on the list came from Candice, who shared that she loves soba noodles. They’re delicious hot or cold and contain more fiber and protein. Plus, they’re gluten-free! Combine soba noodles with chicken or vegetable broth, shiitake mushrooms, scallions, spinach, hard-boiled eggs, garlic, and ginger with a little sea salt and soy sauce for a delicious Asian-style meal.
Chef Geoffrey Zakarian revealed his favorite supermarket food: anything pickled from the deli section. He loves adding them to dishes for a flavor boost with zero fat! Number two on the list was Swiss chard, which Rocco believes is a great alternative to kale with the same benefits. He shared an incredible recipe for Rainbow Chard in Cashew Cream to show viewers how to use the ingredient to make an incredibly flavorful meal. Number one on the list was Panko bread crumbs because they can completely transform a dish.
