Dr Oz: Low Sodium Showdown
Dr Oz invited two sisters to face off in a Sloppy Joe cooking contest. Kimberly from Maryland faced off against her younger sister, Tiffany. With the help of a cooking expert, Tiffany created a Tomato & Tabasco Sloppy Joe Recipe. Kimberly created a Jalapeno Sloppy Joe Recipe on the show.
Kim said her usual secret ingredient is vodka sauce. Tiffany said her own combination of BBQ sauce and Tabasco sauce is unbeatable. Before the ladies could get started, Dr Oz took away their salt and sauces, to force them into a low sodium showdown.
Ultimately, Dr Oz and G. Garvin declared that both sisters are winners, and you can try each of their recipes to decide which low sodium option you like the best.

Dr Oz: Tomato & Tabasco Sloppy Joe Recipe Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Vegetable Oil
- 2 chopped cloves Garlic
- 1 chopped Red Pepper
- 1 chopped Green Pepper
- 1/2 cup Molasses
- 1 tsp Tabasco Sauce
- 2 lb Lean Ground Beef
- 1/4 cup Low Sodium Chicken Broth
- 8 oz canned Tomatoes
- 3 tbsp Low Sodium Tomato Paste
- 4 Hamburger Buns
- Pepper
Dr Oz: G. Garvin’s Tomato & Tabasco Sloppy Joe Recipe Directions
- Heat oil in a skillet.
- Add in garlic with bell peppers. Saute for three minutes, until tender.
- Season with pepper.
- Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook and stir for around eight minutes, until meat is fully cooked.
- Stir in molasses, tomato paste, tomatoes, hot sauce, and chicken broth.
- Let simmer for about 10 minutes, until thickened.
- Serve on buns.
