Dr Oz: Woman Didn’t Know She Was Pregnant
What would you do if you didn’t know you were pregnant until you were in labor? It happens more often than you would think. Ileana and her boyfriend had been together for about three years and in October 2016 she suddenly began feeling severe cramping in her lower stomach. Her sister is a medical assistant and, after going over her symptoms, believed it was an ovarian cyst that had ruptured. She went to the emergency room where they did an ultrasound and discovered she was about 15 weeks pregnant.
She was rushed to the OB/GYN to another two hour-long ultrasound after which it was discovered she was actually between 36-38 weeks pregnant. It was then that her water broke. Ileana joined the show and explained to Dr Oz that she still had her period every month, didn’t gain a lot of weight, and could still bend forward and be on her feet for hours without any problem.
Dr Oz: Missed Pregnancy Symptoms
Dr Oz then turned to Dr Jennifer Ashton, an OB/GYN, who expressed how impressive it was that Ileana went through everything that she did. Approximately one in 450 women don’t know they are pregnant until 20 weeks or later. Dr Ashton wanted everyone to better understand the difference between menstruation and bleeding, because Ileana wasn’t actually getting her period every month.
On October 16, 2016, Ileana delivered a baby boy named Jackson and Dr Oz was thrilled to welcome Jackson and his dad Junior to the show. There’s no denying Jackson was one handsome little boy! Junior told Dr Oz that he got a phone call from Ileana’s sister who told him he needed to get to the hospital because Ileana was in labor, and he hung up on her because he thought she was joking. But after multiple call backs, he finally realized it was real and rushed to be by his girlfriend’s side, although he was five minutes too late.
Dr Oz: Kidney Stones Or Pregnancy?
Dr Oz then spoke to a woman named Stephanie who had given birth twice and had three normal pregnancies until the third time. She experienced no symptoms, had what she thought was a period every month, and didn’t gain weight. But then suddenly she experienced severe pain that she thought was the result of a kidney stone. She rushed to the hospital where they asked if there was any chance she was pregnant and she said no because she was on her period at the time.
She was preparing for a CAT scan when doctors decided to do an ultrasound instead. As she was wheeled in, the doctor asked “how many weeks is she?” to which the nurse responded “38 weeks, two days.” That was the first moment she realized she was actually pregnant. The baby was sitting breach up behind her ribs, essentially hiding from her. Dr Oz couldn’t wait to hold the little guy as he and his father joined the show.
