Doctor Oz did a segment called “Dr Oz’s Ultimate Checklist: Supplements” to discuss the four supplements and vitamins that every woman over 40 needs. I am not sure why he just said women over 40, because he said that he personally takes each of these supplements every day, and the last I heard, Dr Oz is a man!
Dr Oz said that Americans spent $27 billion on Dietary Supplements last year. Half of the adult population in America, 150 million people, have bought into the idea of taking supplements. Most Americans do not know how to pick their vitamins and supplements correctly though and just rely on ads and hype… supplements are only helpful if you are taking the right ones. So here is Dr Oz’s Ultimate Supplement Checklist:
Dr Oz’s Ultimate Checklist: Supplements
Dr Oz said that a multivitamin can help fend off heart disease, breast cancer and colon cancer. In a study done on 3 million people, only 1% of the people were found to get enough nutrients and vitamins from their diet alone. So even if you think you are getting enough in your diet, think of the multivitamin as an insurance policy that guarantees you will get everything your body needs no matter what. Look for a multivitamin that contains Vitamin B, C, E and Zinc. Dr Oz said to avoid mega doses, like supplements that say 500% of your daily need. Also, he suggests avoiding iron unless you are menstruating. Dr Oz suggests splitting up when you take your multivitamin so that you take half in the morning and half in the evening, because your body can only absorb a certain amount of vitamins at any given time. Any leftover vitamins are generally released from your body in urine. Plus, you don’t want your body to have highs and lows of vitamins. Dr Oz said you can get 50 tablets for $9.99, but the multivitamins that I get at Whole Foods actually cost quite a bit more. However, my multivitamin is fantastic because all of the vitamins and nutrients are derived from actual food, so your body can absorb it easier. What is your favorite multivitamin? Leave a comment below and share with everyone!
2. Calcium / Magnesium
Dr Oz said that Calcium and Magnesium are important for your muscles, bones and teeth. Dr Oz suggested taking 600 mg of calcium with 400 mg of magnesium to help fend off Osteoporosis. Calcium all alone can be constipating, but the magnesium will help with that. Also, magnesium relaxes your arteries so that you won’t get heart problems from the calcium. Dr Oz said that you should not take calcium within two hours of taking other pills, because calcium can block your body from absorbing other nutrients. Also, take your calcium supplement with a full glass of water.
3. Vitamin D
Dr Oz said that Vitamin D helps your body to absorb calcium and is key to your nervous system. If you live North of Atlanta or have dark skin, then you probably don’t get enough Vitamin D from the sun. Take 1000 IU of Vitamin D with your breakfast, preferably with milk or yogurt because it is fat soluble.
4. Fish Oil
Dr Oz said that Fish Oil helps your important organs like your brain and heart. Fish oil contains omega 3 fatty acids called DHA and EPA which are good for your brain, heart, lower your risk of heart attack, and reduce your risk of breast cancer by over 30%. Imagine that your body is like a wood board, and a drill bit is like inflammation, toxins in the environment and stress in life. If you apply the drill to the wooden board, you will get smoke and irritation, but if you take omega 3 fats and fill up the hole, then damage is minimized. Dr Oz said that some people are worried about mercury and PCB, and this has always been one of my key concerns. In fact, Dr Oz had a guest a while back who had recommended Krill Oil for this exact reason. However, Tod Cooperman, the president of ConsumerLab.com, said that they did a test and found no detectable amount of mercury in fish oil and very small amounts of PCB, which was even lower than the amount that you would get through a fish meal. However, Cooperman said that some fish oil supplements have less DHA or EPA than they claim and some supplements were spoiled which makes a more fishy taste. Keep your fish oil in the fridge to make it last longer. Dr Oz recommends taking 600 mg of DHA Omega 3’s with breakfast and said that 60 pills cost around $12.

I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO COULD NOT GET THRU. I AM FRUSTRATED.
I waited for 45 minutes for coupon to print. What a waste of time. I gave up.
Jean, Cindy, Viery, Lynne, Brenda and Phyllis (plus any others who tried to get the free vitamins), I cannot speak on behalf of Dr Oz, since we are not affiliated with him at all (we are just Dr Oz’s biggest fan site). However, my guess is that with so many people trying to get the vitamins at 3 pm yesterday, they probably hit 2000 people (their limit) within minutes unfortunately. I was not able to get the vitamins either, however if you are interested in coupons, Dr Oz’s site now has a link to coupons for $2 off Nature Made Vitamin D and Fish Oil. Here is the link for that: coupons.
I also tried to get the free vitamins from Dr oz show but wasn’t able to. I was disappointment because i love Dr oz show .i was on at 3.00 and tried for awhile but no luck

I can totally relate to the headache in picking the right vitamins! Dr Oz did mention to look for vitamins with a USP Verified Seal, which you can see here. I personally take this vitamin: New Chapter Organics 40+ Every Woman II Multi Vitamin, and I absolutely love it. What brand does everyone else use?
i watch you so much i tell everyone aboutyou

I waited for 30 minutes for coupon why dr.oz. I need for me and my mom.
Why does Dr. Oz say 600 mg of calcium and 400 mg of magnesium? Every vitamin and mineral bottle, every website, every person I asked says 1000 mg of calcium. And 1200 mg of calcium if you are 50 or over.
Since calcium blocks the absorption of other supplements, where can I find a multivitamin that doesn’t have calcium in it
What are the 12 essential vitamins and minerals that should be in a multivitamin? Dr. Oz said B, C, E and Zinc. Some websites say there are 8 essential B vitamins. Other websites say there are 7 essential B vitamins. What does Dr. Oz say? Does he include calcium, magnesium, vitamin D and fish oil in those 12 essentials? Other web sites includes vitamins A and K in the list of essential vitamins. Why didn’t Dr. Oz include them?
Why doesn’t Dr. Oz.s website have an email address where I can ask these questions?
I notably like and agree with this method to writing: “The reality is that any writing is just one person’s very skewed version of the story.” Not solely do readers need to take that to heart, however as writers, we would do ourselves a favor by embracing that extra totally and openly.
I am trying to find as website that was mentioned on the Dr. Oz show which verifies the quality of vitamins, minerals and herbal remedies such as st John wort.
I have been taking whole food organic vitamins for about an year now and I find that they are more healthier than over the counter one a day vitamins. I believe that they are more effective and healthier than all the others.

What whole food multi vita does Dr. Oz recommend?
What calcium/mag supplement does he recommend? I am hugely concerned over ones that are made from limestone and am wanted the most absorbable. Would coral/algae calcium be the best and what about calciums coming from Japan where the waters have been radiated.
Which Fish Oil Supplement does he recommend? Would one by Nordic be a good choice?
