Dr Oz did a segment called the 7 Essentials for Women Over 40. Welcome To Your 40’s! Doctor Oz said that many products are marketed to the 40+ portion of our population, in fact it is a multi-billion dollar industry. Which products work and which are just hype?
Dr Oz: Women Over 40
Dr Oz brought onto his show three women who are 40 or above. Maureen said she will do anything to look and feel good. In fact, she spent $1000 in one month on different anti-aging products. Andrea is 50 pounds overweight and feels sluggish. She knows she should take supplements but is overwhelmed and does not know which ones to focus on. Donna told Dr Oz that she used to have tons of energy, but when she reached 40 it was like she hit a brick wall. Now she can never seem to get enough sleep.
Dr Oz: Valerian Root Tea
Dr Jennifer Ashton, an ObGyn, told Dr Oz that there are many things that can be going on in your 40’s. You could have a new baby, teenage kids, or something could start to change in your body itself. Dr Ashton said that by drinking Valerian Root Tea a couple hours before going to bed, it can help to soothe and relax you. Dr Oz spoke about the benefits of Valerian Tea previously on a different show – click here to read that recap: Valerian Tea.
Dr Oz: DHEA Supplements
Dr Jennifer Ashton said that the first thing to do is to remove the television from your bedroom. The next idea is to consider taking DHEA Supplements, because DHEA is a precursor to estrogen and testosterone. You should not take more than 25 mg of DHEA orally, and you should first have you doctor check to see if your levels are low first. DHEA can stabilize your hormone levels and therefore it can help. DHEA Supplements are available over-the-counter.
Dr Oz: Bobbi Brown Anti-Aging Makeup
Bobbi Brown, the famous makeup artist and author of Living Beauty, said that it is more important how you feel, what you put into your body and exercise than the anti-aging products that you buy. She also stressed the importance of drinking lots and lots of water to stay hydrated. Her first tip was to take a Fish Oil Supplement and to use an Olive Oil Moisturizer.
Dr Oz: Bobbi Brown Concealer & Corrector
Bobbi Brown said that Concealer is the secret of the universe, and a Corrector is crucial because it helps to brighten-up your under-eye area. She took a little bit of corrector (which had a pink tone) and applied it under Maureen’s eye and at the inner corner of the eye. She then place a little yellow tone concealer on top and locked everything in with a yellow powder. The difference this under-eye makeup made was really incredible!
Dr Oz: Bobbi Brown Cream Blush
Bobbi Brown said that as women get older, their skin get more and more dry. You should opt for a cream blush rather than a powder blush, or you can even use a lipstick if you are in a pinch!
Dr Oz: Iron in Dried Fruit
Kristin Kirkpatrick from the Cleveland Clinic said that as we get into our 40’s, we burn less calories since our muscle mass is decreasing – so you cannot eat the same way that you did in your 20’s and 30’s and expect to look the same. She said that people often complain of a lack of energy or feeling fatigued, which could be a sign of a lack of iron. You can get iron in spinach or dried fruits.
Dr Oz: Freekeh, Seitan & Quinoa
Kristin Kirkpatrick said that by eating lean protein, you will stay fuller for longer. Typically when people think of lean protein, they think of chicken, but you should think outside the box. Quinoa can be used like couscous and is full of protein. Seitan is a protein that comes from wheat, and Dr Oz said that you can barbecue it or prepare it like other meat products. Freekah is a traditional middle eastern grain that is lower in carbs than most grains and it is a good source of protein as well. I have heard of all of these but Freekeh, so I will have to keep my eyes peeled for this at the grocery!

Why does Dr. Oz recommend vitamins and minerals where one always has to pay a shipping charge? then he proclaims a banner day for those who find great deals on line. Where do they find them when his sites are always more expensive?
Would like to know.
