Dr Oz knows that if you snore, it impacts not only your own sleep, but also the sleep of everyone in your household. Growing up, I could hear my father snoring even though there was an entire floor between us! Snoring is not a joke though, Doctor Oz said that snoring can be serious, especially if you have Sleep Apnea.
Dr Oz said that many of us snore and do not even realize it. If you were able to look deep inside of your throat, you would be able to see that if you snore at night, as air is pulled into your throat, your tongue pulls up against the soft palette and vibrates, making a sound similar to a kazoo. If there is no air passing through at all, then this could be a problem, because with Sleep Apnea you literally stop breathing.
Dr Oz said that some concerns about snoring include that it causes you to not wake up well rested so you are always exhausted and you can get a constant sore throat. People with Sleep Apnea are also at a higher risk for health problems like Heart Disease.
Dr Oz: Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece
Dr Oz showed how if you push your jaw forward, it reshapes your mouth and helps you to not snore. There is a special little device that you put in your mouth that pushes your jaw forward while you sleep and Dr Oz called it an Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece. Apparently you can have them custom made by your dentist as well.
Dr Oz: Nasal Strips Prevent Snoring
Dr Oz also suggested using Nasal Strips to prevent snoring. You just place the nasal strip on the soft part of your nose, and it pulls up your nostrils to help prevent snoring. Nasal Strips cost $12 online.
Dr Oz: Clothespin & Ball Device
Dr Oz showed how you can attach what looked like a little wiffle ball to a clothes pin, which can be attached to the back of your shirt. This will help to make sure you sleep on your side instead of on your back, and sleeping on your side can minimize snoring.
Dr Oz: Snore Relief Pillows
Dr Oz’s last solution for snoring is to get a Snore Relief Pillow that has a little groove for where your arm can hug onto the pillow, which makes it easier for you to sleep on your side and not snore. You can get one of these Snore Relief Pillows online for $60. I will definitely be on the lookout for where we can buy these pillows!
