Dr Oz: The Power Of Being Quiet
Susan Cain was excited to join Dr Oz to discuss why she believes there is power in being quiet. She’s the author of the best-selling book “Quiet” and is making a case for nurturing people who value less stimulation and more solitude. She’s arguing that our extroverted society is overwhelming, overloading, and draining all of us. Her TED talk on “The Unsung Virtues of Introversion” went viral, inspiring more than 13 million people. She’s encouraging people to find their inner introvert to find more balance in their own lives.
Dr Oz: Author Susan Cain On Introvertion
Susan believes that the key is tapping into the power you have available for yourself. There are various introverts like Bill Gates, Gandhi, Rosa Parks, and Emma Watson, who have all made contributions to the world because of their quiet temperaments. Introverts have an edge when it comes to creativity because they’re able to take the time to sit and focus. They also tend to be good listerns, readers, and are self-reflective.
There are many studies that show introverted leaders deliver better outcomes than extroverted leaders do, because they get to those leadership positions through genuine passion.
To figure out if you’re an extrovert or an introvert, you can log onto Dr Oz’s website and take Susan’s personality quiz. Dr Oz’s audience took it, and he found that 24% were extroverts, 20% were introverts and 56% were ambiverts or a mixture of the first two.
Susan then explained that often times people do what’s expected of them, going out of their way to avoid time for themselves, without realizing how beneficial some alone time would be.
Dr Oz: Become An Introvert To Find Balance In Your Life
Susan actually had a plan to break the busy and create quiet time for yourself in order to bring out the benefits of being an introvert. To become a little more of an introvert, you should first feel a little entitled. You shouldn’t feel guilty about taking the time you need for yourself. You should also date yourself or try taking yourself out to dinner by yourself. Third, identify creative goals and determine something you’ve always wanted to do. Make it a top priority. Finally, find your flow and make it work for you!
