Dr. Oz played a game called Blind Taste Game today with Chef Dave Lieberman, author of The 10 Things You Need to Eat: And More Than 100 Easy and Delicious Ways to Prepare Them. Dave made a chocolate mousse dessert that looked just heavenly, and apparently tasted amazing too… but it is actually better for you because it uses avocado instead of butter. Who would have thought to replace butter with avocado… brilliant!
Chef Dave Lieberman’s Chocolate Avocado Mousse Recipe:
12 oz dark chocolate
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp chili powder
1 ripe Hass avocado, pitted and peeled
3/4 cup light brown sugar
6 egg whites
Melt the dark chocolate with the cinnamon and chili powder (though on the show, Lieberman left out the cinnamon and chili powder, so these are clearly optional… and I would probably also add a little vanilla extract or maybe orange extract). Put the avocado into a food processor with the brown sugar and process until it is smooth. Add the melted chocolate into the food processor and whip it up some more in the food processor. Fold the mixture into some whipped up egg whites and put it in the fridge.
Dave Lieberman’s avocado chocolate mousse dessert has 375 calories, compared to Julia Child’s dessert that has 500 calories.
