Doctor Oz received a question from Jennifer Aniston on the Ask Dr Oz Celebrity Edition segment. Jennifer Aniston was a star on the television show Friends, and wanted to know what was the most scary moment health-wise or the most life threatening situation that Dr Oz has ever been in. As fans of Dr Oz, many of us don’t really stop to think about the fact that Doctor Oz has had health issues himself. This segment really brought Dr Oz back down to the level of “us normal people” so to speak!
Dr Oz is allergic to bee stings and when he was 5 years old, his father was driving him somewhere and noticed that he got hives. Doctor Oz’s father was also a doctor, and when Mehmet said that everything looked gray and that there was no color, he was rushed to the hospital. At the hospital, Dr Oz found out that he was having an allergic reaction to a bee sting. When you have an allergic reaction to bee venom, you can go into Anaphylactic Shock. Between 40 and 100 people die each year from this. You can get Anaphylactic Shock from chemicals in the air or medication – in addition to allergic reactions to bee stings.
