Dr Oz was joined by Naomi Judd as part of “Ask Dr Oz Celebrity Edition.” Naomi Judd is of course a 6 time Grammy Award Winning Artist, and she is now back on tour with The Judd’s after her life-threatening battle with Hepatitis years ago. After Thanksgiving, I think I heard correctly and that Naomi is starting an AmeriSciences Research Lab to help teach and promote to everyone about how closely the mind and body are connected. So Naomi’s question for Doctor Oz was what can you do to keep your brain active?
Dr Oz told Naomi that one of the best things you can do to keep your brain active is to dance, because it reduces dementia levels and stimulates all different parts of your brain. Here is a breakdown of the parts of your brain that dancing stimulates:
Parts of the Brain Stimulated by Dance
Amygdala – this is the emotional center of the brain stimulated during dance
Hippocampus – this is the part of the brain that helps you to memorize the dance
Frontal Cortex – this is the part of the brain that helps you to process what is going on
Cerebellum – this part of the brain helps you to remain coordinated
Dr Oz even brought Louis Van Amstel, from Dancing with the Stars, only the show to teach Naomi Judd a few dance steps. Dr Oz also did a segment yesterday on a woman who lost 200 pounds dancing, which I wrote about here: Angel Williams. I also would highly suggest reading my summary of the Dr Oz segment on how Ping Pong Prevents Alzheimer’s Disease
