Dr Oz: Restless Leg Syndrome or RLS Symptoms, Cures & Home Remedy

Doctor Oz did a segment on Restless Leg Syndrome or RLS.  RLS can cause pain during the day, but tends to get worse at night.  Do you know the symptoms of Restless Leg Syndrome?  Or are you looking for RLS cures or Restless Leg Syndrome Home Remedies?  Dr Oz covered all of this!  Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless Leg Syndrome Symptoms:

1.  Strong urge to move your legs

2.  It is worse when you are lying down or sitting still

3.  You only get relief by moving around

4.  It happens at night

Dr Oz said that you can get RLS irritation on the back of your calf or other places including your hip or ankle.  It will feel like a crawling, tingling, strange, jerking or burning feeling.  12 million Americans have Restless Leg Syndrome and there seems to be a genetic link to it.  Kids can get RLS, and women can get it during the last months of their pregnancy, but it can strike at any time.

Restless Leg Syndrome Foods

Helpful foods and items include iron and lavender soap.  Dr Oz said that RLS is often caused by an iron deficiency, hence why iron supplements may be helpful.

Harmful foods and items include chocolate, coffee and cocktails: the 3 C’s.

Prescription drugs fall somewhere in between helpful and harmful because some anti-depressants or sleep medicines can cause Restless Leg Syndrome while some new drugs seem to work to cure RLS.

Restless Leg Syndrome Home Remedy: Lavender Soap

Dr Oz said that some people swear by putting some natural lavender bars of soap under a sheet that your legs will lie on top of.  The lavender fragrance comes up through the sheet and apparently some people find it helps significantly with their Restless Leg Syndrome.

I may barf from not from excitement. yes, the lavender smell can help you relax, as in aroma therapy, but it is not going to “cure: or even help something like a neurological disease like RLS. The use fo the word cure with RLS is like using the word cure for the common cold or Parkinson’s Disease. There are treatments, but no cure as of yet. That is years and years away. What works for one person with RLS does not necessarily work for the next person, whether it be prescription meds or soap (placebo effect). And, it would be nice to explain that before ever taking iron, which may not even be your problem, ALWAYS consult your won doctor. Iron overload is dangerous, hard to do if taken orally, but infusions one has to watch out for it. I have listed a web site by an RLS expert who treats RLS in the US, and is a medical advisor to the RLS Foundation and the IRLSSG. We have to do our homework, and not just take anyone’s word for it no matter what the prefix is before his or her name.

My restless leg syndrome is so severe, that my left leg is like a piston – up down up down up down jerk jolt kick jerk jolt kick the whole night through. It is now causing serious trouble with my back and left hip. I am constantly stiff and painful from the waist down. My doctor ran a blood test, put me on vitamin d tablets, but refuses to offer any more support.

I am at my wits end
