Dr Oz did a show called The Pulse where he covers the hottest headlines in health. Doctor Oz was joined by Dr Janet Taylor, Dr Donnica Moore and Dr Corey Hebert to discuss all of these hot health news topics.
Dr Oz: The Twinkie Diet
Dr Oz knows that many of us have heard about the professor of nutrition who spent 10 weeks living on cake, chips and pop. And at the end of the 10 week period, he lost 27 pounds, his Body Mass Index (BMI) went from overweight to normal, and he lowered his bad cholesterol and triglycerides. Could the Twinkie Diet be the next miracle diet?
Dr Oz showed the foods that this professor lived off of like chips and brownies, but he also ate some veggies and had milk and a protein shake. Like Dr Corey Hebert said, a calorie is just a calorie at the end of the day. So if you eat just one Twinkie and one Dorito, then you might lose weight. People think that desperate times call for desperate measures, but this really is not the way to lose weight. Also, the man who lost all of that weight was also taking vitamins and eating fiber.
Dr Oz said that the biggest issue for him with the Twinkie Diet is that it is so hard to do, because you must restrict calories which is tough on a diet like this. Also, energy in must balance with energy out, so exercise is crucial to any diet plan.
Dr Oz did a demonstration to show how when you eat a healthy diet, you burn up the calories over 4-5 hours and then become hungry, but with a Junk Food Diet like the Twinkie Diet, you go through calories fast and then end up hungry again. Dr Oz said that he would rather see a person be chubby but be in good shape than to be thin and in bad shape.
