Dr Oz: Alzheimers Holistic Health
Dr Oz’s show on Holistic Medicine gave a list of three things to prevent getting Alzheimer’s Disease. Doctor Oz said that losing your mind is eveyone’s biggest fear, but he is optimistic that we can at least helps to slow down the process. Dr Oz’s assistant said that she is very worried about getting Alzheimer’s because both of her grandmothers have it, so she wants to learn everything she can about preventing this awful disease.
Doctor Oz asked Dr Andrew Weil how preventable is Alzheimer’s Disease? Dr Weil said that there is no real way to quantify it at this point, but that there are lifestyle choices that you can make to help delay the progression of the disease or to reduce your risk of getting it. Dr Oz showed the difference between a healthy brain and a brain of someone with Alzheimer’s Disease. The cortex on the outside of the brain starts to shrivel up when you have Alzheimers. Plus, the hippocampus (which is the center of where your memories are stored) get holes so you forget things. Here are what Deepak Chopra and Dr Andrew Weil suggested we do to help ward off Alzheimers Disease:
Dr Oz: Ginkgo & Phosphatidyl Serine
Dr Oz’s first tip was to take memory enhancing supplements. Alzheimers begins as inflammation in your brain, so you want an Anti-Inflammatory Diet and Lifestyle. First, take 20 IU of Vitamin E every day, which is a fat soluble supplement. Since your brain is mostly made of fat, Vitamin E helps to protect against some of the stress damage to your memory. Two other Memory Enhancing Supplements include Ginkgo (take 600 mg per day) and PS or Phosphatidyl Serine (take 200 mg twice per day).
Dr Oz: Deepak Chopra Alzheimers Tips
Deepak Chopra gave Dr Oz the next piece of advice on preventing Alzheimer’s Disease. By eating certain foods, the nutrients found in the food has the ability to change our mind. Brazilian Nuts are high in magnesium and thus help to improve neurotransmission in your brain. Chopra also suggests eating one hard-boiled egg everyday (and that includes the egg yolk!). And the final must-eat food is coffee, which contains antioxidants and magnesium. He suggested drinking 3-4 cups per day. Deepak Chopra even told Doctor Oz that a study found that people who drink coffee have less cases of Heart Disease and Arrhythmia.
Dr Oz: Triple Threat Spice Rub
Dr Oz’s final tip for preventing Alzheimer’s Disease is to make what he calls the Triple Threat Seasoning Mix, which Dr Weil calls the Oz Chopra Weil Spice Rub! You mix together 1 part Turmeric, 2 parts Sage and 3 parts Ginger. Then you can use the rub before you cook your salmon. Deepak Chopra said that this spice mix even helps to decrease your appetite so that you lose weight.
Doctor Oz also mentioned that you can boost your memory by taking 1,000 mg of Acetyl L-Carnetine daily.
