While many were thrilled that coffee was part of the diet, Dr Oz wanted to make sure they were drinking it the right way to be sure it was helping them, not hurting them. Ashley Koff, dietitian, shared that one cup of black coffee has just one calorie. But a lot of women can’t drink their coffee black, so Ashley broke down which nut milk was best to sweeten your coffee without breaking the rules.
Dr Oz likes nut milks in general because they’re lower in calories and packed full of vitamins and minerals. Dr Oz welcomed three women who were following the diet, and helped them figure out what coffee addition was best for them. First, was a woman who loves a good latte or cappuccino. For her, Ashley recommended cashew milk because it’s creamy and naturally sweet.

Dr Oz: Almond Milk For Iced Coffee + Coconut Milk
If you enjoy an iced coffee, try almond milk. Ashley explained that when you put almond milk in hot coffee it can separate, which is why it’s best cold. Plus you can use a good amount of it! Finally, if you usually reach for heavy cream for your coffee, try coconut milk because it’s super creamy. They also mentioned that soy milk tends to curdle when added to hot coffee, which is why they didn’t suggest soy milk.
Dr Oz: Espresso Oatmeal
Finally Ashley found a way to make coffee into a meal. Ashley explained that she didn’t enjoy plain espresso and didn’t have any coconut milk, so she made oatmeal. She added espresso to her oatmeal and ate it like normal, and it was like a chewy energy shot in a bowl!
