Dr Oz did a segment called “What Should I Do If…” to tell us how to handle life and death situations. Doctor Oz spoke about how to handle having a heart attack and what to do if a person has a seizure.
What Should I Do If I Have a Heart Attack?
Dr Oz said that the first hour after you have a heart attack is called the “Golden Hour” because what you do could be the difference between life and death. If you are having a heart attack, what should you do first: take an aspirin or call 911? 71% of Dr Oz’s audience said that you should take an aspirin first, but this is wrong! Dr Oz said that if you have a heart attack, you should call 911 first, because otherwise nobody is going to be coming to help you.
Dr Oz said to do the following if you have a heart attack:
1. Call 911
2. Take an aspirin
3. Sit down, relax and stay calm until the ambulance comes.
What Should I Do If Someone Has a Seizure?
Dr Oz said that 300,000 people will have their first seizure this year, and it can leave you frozen and terrified. If someone is having a seizure should you help them gently to the floor? Or prevent them from choking by inserting an item into their mouth?
71% of Dr Oz’s audience said that if a person is having a seizure, you should move them to the floor, which is correct. Dr Oz said you should never put something in their mouth, because they could bite you, you cut gum their gums or you could break their teeth. It is nearly impossible to swallow your tongue, because if you lift your tongue up and look in the mirror, you will see a piece of tissue holding your tongue down so that it can’t go anywhere.
Dr Oz said if a person is having a seizure, you should do the following:
1. Guide the person the floor
2. Put a cushion or jacket under their head
3. Roll the person onto their side
4. Watch them carefully
