Dr Oz: Charlamagne Runs Off Birdman

Dr Oz was enjoying a candid conversation with radio host Charlamagne tha God, who loves to put guests in the hot seat. Dr Oz was curious as to whether there was ever anyone who couldn’t seem to take the heat, and Charlamagne responded by saying rapper Birdman barely lasted over two minutes.

Charlamagne made a comment about why artists would sign with Birdman knowing he doesn’t pay his artists. He also brought up an old picture that looked like Birdman and Lil Wayne were kissing, saying it looked like a hip hop version of The Notebook. Birdman clearly didn’t like that, so he walked off the show.

Charlamagne then wanted to share some of his favorite tips, saying first “opportunity comes to those who create it.” His first tip for success is “if you don’t have anything nice to say, say it anyway.” A lot of times, you have to tell people what they don’t want to hear, but need to hear.

Charlamagne also shared his “three P’s”: passion, poison, and procrastination. It’s important to find your passion and avoid procrastination as well as all those voices of people telling you, you can’t. That’s the poison.

Charlamagne also advises people to “put the weed in the bag.” It’s not meant literally, it’s actually from the movie Belly starring DMX. In the movie, there are two young kids sitting at a table with DMX saying they want to skip school and go out selling instead. DMX tells them “put the weed in the bag first” which basically means there’s a step by step process and that process should be respected.

Finally, “live your truth” so that nobody can use your truth against you. Whatever you have that society tells you could hold you back, own it. They should be embraced and seen as a privilege instead. Live your life and be happy to be alive. Period. Charlamagne is the author of “Black Privilege.”
