Dr Oz: Chemical Sunscreen Warning

Dr. Andrew Weil says the most popular question he gets asked during the summer months is whether or not the chemicals in sunscreens are safe or not and he is ready to tell you they are not safe. Dr. Weil explains that he is concerned about sunscreens that contain chemicals, especially those containing Oxybenzone, which is a hormone disruptor, and Vitamin A in the form of Retinol, which accelerates the growth of skin cancer. He goes on to say that many chemical sunscreens to do not block UVA rays, which is why he recommends botanical sunscreens instead.
- Look for sunscreen that contains Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide
Dr Oz: Dr Weil’s Multivitamin Buying Guidelines
The next health hot topic is one that has caused a great deal of controversy in the medical community and it has Dr. Weil outraged because it is regarding the safety of multivitamins. While lots of studies have come out showing them to be a waste of money, Dr. Weil says multivitamins are safe with a few cautions.
- Read labels carefully and take the proper dose of each vitamin.
- Choose multivitamins that contain as low a dose as possible of each vitamin.
- No Vitamin A unless mixed Carotenoids
- Vitamin C: No more than 250MG
- Skip Iron unless you’re menstruating or Anemic.
Dr Oz: Non-Stick Cookware Toxic Fumes
The next health controversy Dr. Oz and Dr. Weil address is regarding chemically treated non-stick cookware. Dr. Weil says this is a controversy that has gone on for many years, but he says these types of pans are definitely unsafe because Teflon contains toxic chemicals. When heated to high temperatures they have even been shown to emit toxic fumes, so it is best to avoid non-stick cookware and look for products that contain inert ceramic coating instead, which Dr. Weil says is completely safe.
Dr Oz: Summer Weight Loss Tip – Eat Bitter Foods
Dr. Andrew Weil shared a few bonus summer tips to help you enjoy the warmest months of the year and stay healthy while doing it.
- Eat bitter foods before a meal to curb appetite. Good examples include dandelion greens, radicchio, Belgian endive, and even beer because it contains hops, which are bitter in taste.
- Drink Sea Buckthorn Juice mixed with soda water and maple syrup for a healthy boost of antioxidants.
