Dr Oz: Eric & Lara Trump Against Puppy Mills
While sitting down with Eric and Lara Trump, Dr Oz wanted to find out more about an issue they’re passionate about. Lara and Eric first saw a picture of their dog Ben in 2016 on a New York rescue dog website. Ben was in pretty bad shape, so Lara and Eric signed up to be his foster parents, not intending to adopt him. About three months later, they fell in love with Ben and decided to keep him. They also have Charlie, another hound and Ben and Charlie get along great!
Dr Oz: Puppy Mill Awareness
The audience was then surprised to see Ben and Charlie right there on set as they joined their parents on the couch. Dr Oz shifted gears to talk about puppy mills, which, according to Lara, is a huge problem in America. What a lot of people don’t realize is that any animal you purchase from a pet store comes from a puppy mill, which are basically “breeding sweat shops for dogs.”
At puppy mills, female dogs are overbred and locked in cages in deplorable conditions until they can no longer reproduce. They’re then killed and it’s all about money. Approximately 6 million pets are euthanized every year.
Lara is hoping to encourage more people to adopt or rescue shelter dogs. She explained that many shelters have people who can work with you to find a dog who’s just right for you.
Dr Oz: Trump Rescue Dog In The White House?
Dr Oz was curious about how the Trump family was trying to “change the equation” by putting a rescue dog in the White House. Lara laughed and explained that the Vice President was likely on board because he’s a big dog lover, and Lara is working as hard as she can with the First Family.
What do you think? Should the Trump family adopt a rescue dog to live with them in the White House?
