Dr Oz: Actress Laura Prepon
Dr Oz wanted to share how one woman managed to listen to her own body in order to come up with a plan that was best for her, to get her health back on track. That woman is Orange is the New Black star Laura Prepon. While Laura was a successful actress on screen, for years she struggled with weight and digestive issues, as well as consistently low energy. Her health made acting a constant challenge, so she began researching and trying different health and diet trends, while trying conventional and alternative treatment. Laura completely transformed her lifestyle, improved her health, and shed that stubborn weight for good.
Dr Oz first wanted to know what Laura sees when she looks in the mirror. Laura said she loves her job and wouldn’t change it for the world, but there is certainly a pressure to look a certain way. After she began filming That 70’s Show she experienced her digestive issues and inflammation. She also couldn’t lose weight no matter how hard she tried, including with the use of starvation, crash diets, and hormone injections.

Dr Oz: The Stash Plan
Laura finally figured out what was wrong, which is why she wrote “The Stash Plan.” Laura explained that her mother was a chef and her father was a doctor. Because of her hours food sensitivities, she would make a stash of food and build her meals from it in the morning and take it to set with her. The basis of the plan is taking an hour twice a week to cook two proteins, two carbs, and two vegetables, to have them ready to use to build a meal.
Dr Oz: Homemade Bone Broth For Inflammation
It’s all about getting into a weekly routine of prepping your food to plan ahead. The three pillars of the Stash Plan are bone broth, stash building, and stretching. Laura was having a lot of problems with inflammation and it was the bone broth that made a huge difference for her. To make bone broth, she would take a good amount of bones and cook them for as long as possible in a slow cooker with rosemary, thyme, and vegetables. As the bones cook, the cartilage, collagen, and bone marrow are pulled out.
You can use chicken, beef, or fish bones to make it. She referred to bone broth as the fountain of youth for both men and women, because collagen is so important! You want to be sure to remove the layer of fat that builds at the top of the bone broth once it’s cooled, and throw it away before consuming your broth.
Dr Oz: Build You Food Stash
For the stash building, you just have to put aside two separate hours each week. One week’s stash for Laura could contain roasted chicken, turmeric turkey, roasted beets, roasted cauliflower, sweet potato herb fries, and broth-infused brown rice. She tries to cook with bone broth anytime she can. She would make the food on a Sunday and then again on a Wednesday to use it for the week.
Then she’ll use it to build her meals for that day. She’ll take a dish and add a cup of protein, a cup of vegetables, and then 1/2-3/4 cup of carbs, and that’s one meal. If she has to pack a dinner as well, she’ll choose from the stash again to make another meal. She stressed the importance of using glass containers, saying that if you microwave your food in plastic containers, chemicals will leak into your food. Laura likes to enjoy snacks as well, like avocado with butter lettuce or Almond Bread with almond butter.
Because of this new way of eating, Laura has been able to lose weight without trying and has so much more energy.
Dr Oz: Stretch Your Way To Better Health
The last part of Laura’s Stash Plan is stretching. Laura explained that it’s so important because it targets specific areas where the liver meridian and gallbladder meridian run through. She began using the stretches to open herself up and realign her body, rather than spending three hours at the gym doing crazy workouts. Everything began changing for the better.
