Dr Oz: Leeza Gibbons On Her Dad’s Heart Health
Leeza Gibbons joined Dr Oz to share her advice on staying resilient, even through hard times, as well as to open up about her time spent with President Trump. Leeza was wearing red, which was likely to honor the man she calls her “heart hero,” her father. Her dad recently had a heart attack and underwent open heart surgery, then the day after they had to take out two feet of his colon. At 87-years-old, the doctors didn’t seem too encouraging about his prognosis.
The crazy thing is that her dad had never been to the hospital before, until he was stung by a swarm of yellow jackets. It was then that he was told he had coronary heart disease and needed to undergo surgery that day. He left the hospital against doctors’ advice and was told he would have a fatal or near-fatal heart attack within two years. Approximately one year and 10 months after that visit he dropped to the floor with a heart attack.
Luckily, he had a positive attitude and Senior Helpers provided an in-home companion to provide the support and help he needed.
Dr Oz: Leeza Gibbons Optimism & Resilience
Dr Oz then asked Leeza about her own resilience during her four-decade career. She acknowledged that she’s been overlooked, dismissed, and under-appreciated, but each time it gave her an opportunity to stand up and show people who she really is. One of the keys to resilience is constant optimism. She expects good things to happen, working on it every day, until it starts to work for you.
Dr Oz: Leeza Gibbons ‘Celebrity Apprentice’
On a different note, Leeza Gibbons won Celebrity Apprentice. She actually went against Trump’s advice at the time and led with kindness, which is entirely different than weakness. She added “People who dismiss someone who’s kind in business, that’s a flaw in their strategy. To think you’re a pushover just because you’re nice. There are plenty of successful people who are also nice.”
Leeza was so grateful to be able to advance her non-profit with her earnings from winning the show that she took a picture of her with Trump holding a thumbs up, with a frame that said “nice girls finish first.” She’s now a board room adviser with Arnold Schwarzenegger on the new Celebrity Apprentice. She said both men see vulnerabilities, are tough on people, and are fiercely competitive.
Dr Oz: DIY Beauty Secrets
Leeza then shared her go-to secrets for staying energized and younger-looking. First was her DIY hair mask made of the following ingredients:
- olive oil
Leave it on for 15-20 minutes then rinse and clean your hair with sulfate-free shampoo. Repeat once a week and you’ll have strong, healthy, shiny hair.
Additionally, Leeza loves a good Epsom salt bath to detoxify and boost magnesium and sulfate levels in the body. Leeza likes to add cayenne pepper to her Epsom salt to boost the detox effect! Finally, she swears by argan oil as a moisturizer, particularly on her lips or as a scrub with coffee grounds on her body. It’s also great for your cuticles!
Dr Oz: Transform Your Salad Bowl
During the last segment of his show, Dr Oz also took the time to share some incredible salad hacks to transform the way you think about the healthy meal option. He welcomed chef Geoffrey Zakarian who knows a thing or two about transforming meals. Together, they showed viewers how to make an “event salad.”
The first tip is to change up your base and add protein and fiber to fill you up and keep you full. Try barley, couscous, or wheat berry. Then add protein by selecting either chickpeas, poached eggs, or edamame. When it comes to topping, thing of crunch. Geoffrey likes to add pomegranate, radish, or pickled cherry peppers. Then for a dressing, try a romesco vinaigrette, pesto vinaigrette, or a spicy yogurt lime dressing. To finish, top it with zest!
