As he sat down with Grammy award-winning producer Randy Jackson, Dr Oz was learning more about how he was able to turn his health and his life around after a Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis. Now that he was able to do so for himself, Randy is hoping to educate others about diabetes and how to turn it around. Dr Oz: Diabetic Retinopathy
It’s a condition called Diabetic Retinopathy and although Randy hadn’t struggled with it himself, he wanted to educate others about it. You can tell so much about your health through your eyes, which is why he recommended a comprehensive eye exam. By looking at your eyes, your doctor can tell you what’s going on with your health. The doctor could be able to tell what’s going on with your blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, cholesterol, and so much more.

Surprisingly, there are a lot of disease associated with diabetes which is why a comprehensive eye exam is a good idea.
What Is Diabetic Retinopathy?
Dr Oz explained that historically, the only way to see your brain was to look through someone’s eyes. Dr Oz actually built Randy a giant eye to explain Diabetic Retinopathy, which is essentially a condition where bad things start happening on the inside of the eye.
Inside the eye are blood vessels and if there’s not enough blood going into the eye you can develop empty spots in the back of the eye where you can’t see. In other areas, the eye can develop little bruises which can ultimately effect vision, eventually leading to blindness.
