Dr Oz: Give Up Sugar In 21 Days

As part of his 21-day experiment, Dr Oz asked three women to give up sugar, to see how big of a difference it would make. Find out the incredible results! (healthgauge / Flickr)
First, what happens to your body when you eliminate sugar for a full three weeks? Gabrielle Bernstein quit sugar herself, after realizing her own health problems that were resulting from it. But even she admitted that giving it up meant experiencing withdrawal symptoms, cravings, and mood swings. But just like with any addiction, she stayed determined to get better and has since been off sugar for three years.
To give up sugar, you should first remove things from your view and replace those sugary substances with natural fruit to fight cravings. You also want to fill up on “zero-added sugar carbs” like vegetables, berries, beans, and grains. If you see sugar or fructose on an ingredient list, avoid it and look for fiber instead. Fiber rams should be higher than sugar grams on package foods. You also want to fill up on power proteins like fish, eggs, and chicken, while sipping on healthy drinks like coffee, water, or tea, without added sugar.
Dr Oz: What Happens When You Give Up Sugar?
Luckily, Gabrielle shared a great tip to help get through those intense cravings without indulging in sugar. She combined banana, oats, cinnamon, and cacao nibs before baking baking them like regular cookies. It’s a tasty, sugar-free sweet. It’s also important to treat the emotional side of your sugar addiction as well. Gabrielle suggested meditating while saying to yourself “peace begins with me” as you touch each finger to your thumb.
Dr Oz then turned to three women who went on a complete sugar detox that promised weight loss at the end of the three weeks. Each woman admitted they struggled big time, especially in the beginning, but by day 10 they all started to feel better. At the end of the three weeks they were thrilled with how they looked and felt. As a group, they lost 20 pounds!
The women were then thrilled to try a sweet treat that fit their detox plan, admitting that it could help them stay on track. It was just frozen grapes covered in melted peanut butter and then frozen again. Yes, that easy and yet so deliciously sweet!
Dr Oz: Probiotics To Transform Your Gut In 21 Days
Probiotics have been shown to help with digestive problems and can even help reduce bloating and assist in weight loss. If you have irritable bowel syndrome, probiotics can potentially help with gas, diarrhea and more symptoms. But can you really make that much of a difference in just 21 days with probiotics alone?
Dr Oz explained that the more bacteria you have in your gut, the better. Suddenly your symptoms can improve and you’re left with a much happier gut. When talking to two women who incorporated probiotics into their diets each day, Dr Oz learned that they ate Greek yogurt with honey and a USANA probiotic each day. Both women became much more regular and felt better overall.
