Dr Oz: At-Home Solutions for Back Pain
Dr Oz asked his audience “what if?” questions about how their lives would change if they no longer had back pain. Since everyone had a goal in mind, Dr Oz invited several viewers to participate as he explained some ways you can treat your back pain at home.
Dr Oz: Don’t Get Immobile for Back Pain

Dr Oz shared some ways you can treat your back pain at home and get back in action, with foam rollers or a TENS therapy device. (shockinglytasty / flickr)
Tonya said that she would like to quell her back pain so she could get back in action in the bedroom. In the past, she has tried to rest her back, but that has not worked. Dr Oz said that being immobile for longer than a day could actually make your recovery take longer. Get back in action as soon as possible and your body will compensate on its own. Don’t overdo it, but try to resume your normal activities as soon as you are able.
Dr Oz: Foam Rollers for Myofascial Release
A mother said that she wanted to manage her back pain so she could get back to playing with her children, for activities like ice skating and roller blading. Dr Oz told her that she can perform Myofascial Release using foam rollers. Rolling your back muscles over these foam rollers will help to loosen the membranes around the muscles, giving you improved range of motion.
To use a foam roller, sit down on it and use your feet to guide your body up and down, moving the roller between your lower back and upper butt.
Dr Oz: IcyHot Smart Relief TENS Therapy Back Pain Treatment
Last up was Kristin, who said she hoped to get back on the dance floor if she could only manage her back pain. Dr Oz recommended TENS Therapy. TENS stands for Trans-cutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. This works by blocking pain signals and giving the user relief. There are many devices out there, including the IcyHot Smart Relief TENS Therapy Back Pain device, which Dr Oz used to demonstrate the treatment on Kristin.
Follow the instructions on how to use and where to place your device. Once it is turned on, you can adjust the stimulation to your comfort level. This has been used by doctors and physical therapists, but now it is available and affordable everywhere. Kristin compared the feeling to “a tingly massage.” Dr Oz said the pain relief is nearly instant and the effects can last for hours.
Dr Oz: Believe You Can
In closing, Dr Oz shared a quotation he found on social media. It said, “She believed she could, so she did” and it is attributed to R.S. Grey.
