Dr Oz: Pill-Free Ways To Eliminate Heartburn
Nearly half of all Americans suffer from heartburn and acid blockers are the third-highest selling medication in the country. Thia joined Dr Oz, sharing that her heartburn starts as a “slow boil” until it builds up and hits her in the back of her throat. She carries medication with her at all times, because she never knows when she may need it. He introduced Thia to Dr Mark Hymon, who said heartburn is related to what we’re doing. The problem is that the medicines a lot of people take for heartburn can have side effects like b12 and calcium deficiency as well as irritable bowel or diarrhea.
Dr Oz built a stomach to show that inside the stomach is acid which works like a fire, but it’s supposed to be there. When you take medication to diminish the symptoms, you may feel better for a minute, but the fire will roar back up, creating a vicious cycle. Dr Hyman has a plan to get to the root of heartburn and eliminate it.

Dr Oz: Eliminate Acid Reflux Trigger Foods
Dr Hyman explained that food is the biggest trigger for heartburn and reflux, so the best thing you can do is eliminate those problem food for two weeks and see what happens. Try getting rid of fried foods, spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol, tomato-based foods, or citrus foods. Food sensitivites or allergens can also trigger reflux, like gluten and dairy.
The next part of the plan is to neutralize your nighttime routine. Dr Hyman explained that eating within three hours of going to sleep can cause nighttime heartburn. You should also avoid mindless eating, which is why you should eat in a stress-free way in order to properly digest your food. Take a deep breath in between bites and focus on what you’re eating.
Third, protect and soothe your stomach with medical licorice that comes in the form of a chewable tablet. You can chew 1-2 DGL licorice tablets before each meal. They coat your stomach in a natural way, plus they taste good!
Dr Oz: Simple Procedure To Cure Heartburn
If you’re struggling with chronic heartburn, there’s a new therapy that can be done in less than 60 minutes in your doctors office, which means if all other remedies have seemed to fail, surgery doesn’t have to be your last choice. Dr James Rosser joined Dr Oz to talk about the cutting edge procedure called the Stretta procedure, and it’s FDA-approved. He advises everyone to get a thorough evaluation first, but many can eliminate their heartburn forever thanks to the procedure.
Over-the-counter medications can deal with the symptoms, but they don’t take care of the root cause. During a normal meal, you start to digesting your food in the stomach and the sphincter traps the acid in the stomach where it’s supposed to be. When the sphincter lets acid or food back up, it can cause coughing or burning in the throat. The only way to fix it is to fix that valve.
Dr Oz: How Stretta Procedure Works
During the procedure, a scope goes down the throat to the valve and then prongs hook into the muscle and apply radiofrequency energy, causing the muscle to “bulk up.” Then, the valve will be less likely to fail, since it’s stronger. Usually one time will do the trick to help you “win the war against heartburn.” Dr James knows that there are always risks and complications, but this procedure has proven to have very few risks and complications. Just be sure to have a thorough discussion with your doctor.
When Dr Oz spoke with a woman who had the procedure done, she shared that she’s now medication free and “back to living again.” Get yourself evaluated to see if this procedure could be right for you, so you don’t have to suffer from heartburn any longer.
