Dr Oz: Healthy Bacteria, Healthy Body
You may think you are doing everything right—getting plenty of sleep, taking a multivitamin, washing your hands—but you are still getting sick. If that’s the case, Dr Oz and his guest, Dr Robynne Chutkan, said that the reason could have to do with Gut Bacteria.
Gut Bacteria actually serves an important function in keeping us all healthy. Gut Bacteria needs plant fiber to help it flourish and keep the bad bacteria under control. That’s why you might want to think twice about pumping the hand sanitizer, which can kill off good germs you need to stay healthy.
Dr Oz: Digestive Enzymes

How can you get more good bacteria or feed your Gut Bacteria what it wants? Dr Chutkan’s first recommendation was for Digestive Enzymes, available over the counter. The body makes digestive enzymes on its own.
But we can also get these enzymes from food sources like raw vegetables or fruits. They are also available in supplement form, and they help the body break down food so the Gut Bacteria can digest it.
Dr Oz: Amylase, Lipase and Protease Enzymes
Digestive Enzymes help to break the food down so the Gut Bacteria can help the body absorb it, giving cells energy from the food we ate. Digestive Enzymes are best when found in raw, natural food sources. You can also follow the dosage instructions if you choose a supplement form.
What three Enzymes should you look for when you are shopping? Dr Chutkan said that Amylase, Lipase, and Protease are the ones to watch for. Age can be a factor in that our bodies produce less of these Enzymes as we age, but even young people can have low levels.
Dr Oz: Mushroom Tea Cold Remedy
Mushrooms are a great source of Enzymes. You can try eating them raw or in a Mushroom Tea. In fact, Dr Chutkan said that drinking a cup of mushroom tea in the morning is a great way to target a cold when you feel it coming on. Try a tea made from Maitake, Reishi, or Shiitake Mushrooms.
Dr Oz: Immunity-Boosting Turmeric Latte Recipe
If you want a daily remedy to keep you healthy, Dr Chutkan suggested this Turmeric Latte. Turmeric is a powerful spice that has proven health benefits. Dr Oz said it was among the best-tasting recipes ever on the show, so it must be pretty good, right? Drinking this each morning can give your immune system more power to keep you healthy.
