Dr Oz: Manage Your Mood
Dr Oz met with Annemarie, a woman who struggles with her constant Mood Swings, and he already ruled out some potential health causes before identifying habits that could be contributing to the problem. He worked with Dr Mike Dow to outline a plan that can help you manage your mood just like Annemarie.

Since Mood Swings can be a sign that the body is out of balance, Dr Oz and Dr Dow started by sharing some quiz questions people can ask if they think they are having problems regulating their moods.
- Do your mood swings correlate with hunger?
- Do you cancel or reschedule plans because you are tired or moody?
- Do you rely more and more on caffeine to make it through your day?
- Do you feel a lot worse on some days for no known reason?
If you answered Yes to even one of these questions, you might find the following suggestions helpful to better manage your mood.
Dr Oz: Serotonin Boost from Good Carbs
The first strategy is to boost your body’s levels of the feel-good hormone Serotonin. Dr Mike Dow said that carbs are a comfort food for many people, and he wouldn’t expect us to give them up. However, he suggested some swaps that could make them work better.
The sad news is this means saying goodbye to white pasta, bread, and cookies. Instead, you get to choose from options like beans, berries, and quinoa, which release Serotonin slow and steady, while keeping you satisfied longer.
Dr Oz: Switch To Tea from Soda for Better Moods
Annemarie had a soda habit, and she was drinking three regular sodas on a daily basis. Dr Dow suggested that she switch to tea instead, choosing among Black Tea, Green Tea, and White Tea. The great news about tea is that it will keep you alert but also help to make you feel calm. In the long run, this is good for your waist as well as your mood.
Dr Oz: Find a Positive Focus
Lastly, Dr Dow looked at the emotional aspect of Mood Swings. He suggested that Annemarie use a cognitive behavioral technique to change the way she thinks and feels. Rather than spiraling when she finds herself in one of those foul moods, she can stop and shut it down before it escalates.
If you find yourself in a bad mood like this, ask the question “What’s right?” Think of the things that are working for you in your life right now and remind yourself that everything is not so bad after all.
