Dr Oz teamed up with BuzzFeed to learn more about some of the hottest, most talked about things you could soon become obsessed with. For something to be categorized as “obsessed” it has to have “OMG factor,” and should be a game-changer and affordable. Finally, it should also help keep you healthy.
Dr Oz: Homemade Veggie Chips

First, Dr Oz learned more about homemade veggie chips. They’re lower in fat and calories than regular salty potato chips, and can even be made in the microwave! Dr Oz claimed that while last year, spiralized veggies were all the rage, but this year it’s about the chip! You can actually purchase a veggie chip maker upon which you’ll place your thinly sliced vegetables. Microwave for three minutes and suddenly you have a crispy, healthy snack for 1/3 the calories of regular potato chips!
Dr Oz: Phone Soap Sanitizer + Athleisure
Next, was the Phone Soap 2.0. The gadget uses UV light to clean and sanitize your phone even while it charges. It fits any phone and can even work while the case is on. If you’re worried about germs and bacteria, this is the device for you!
Dr Oz then explained that “athleisure” was certainly in. The comfortable fashion trend allows women to wear clothing normally reserved for exercise, out and about. Now, athleisure is a lot more than just yoga pants. You can find jackets, skirts, tops, sweaters, and more that you can work out in and wear to the office.
Dr Oz: Food Trends + Avocado Frosting
Moving on to some hot food trends, Dr Oz had audience members bite into cupcakes. They all agreed they were delicious, before Dr Oz revealed the frosting was actually made with avocado! Avocados are being added to everything these days for a health kick. To make your own Avocado Frosting, combine the following ingredients until smooth:
- 2 medium avocados
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1 lb powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp lemon extract
Dr Oz: Jack Fruit Meat Replacement
Dr Oz then learned more about jack fruit, which is being used more frequently to replace meat. Surprisingly, jack fruit can take on a very savory flavor. If you chop it up and mix it with brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, a pinch of salt and pepper, and chili, you can fry it up just like you would beef. Add some barbecue sauce and suddenly you have a much healthier meal that tastes just as good!

- 1/3 C natural peanut butter
- 2 tbsp agave nectar
- 1 C chickpeas – skins removed – patted dry
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 C chocolate chips
Dr Oz: Chickpea Cookie Dough Recipe Directions
- Combine the chickpeas, vanilla extract, peanut butter, and agave in a blender or food processor
- Blend into a puree
- Remove the mixture from the blender and put into a large bowl
- Add the chocolate chips and mix with a wooden spoon
