“Say you want to sparkle, but you don’t want to go overboard. This is the key: it’s glitter eyeliner,” Johnson said.
Brow Gel is applied directly on the lash line, creating an anchor for the glitter. Johnson demonstrated the glitter effect using Mac Glitter (Urban Decay makes a similar loose glitter), which gets dabbed but not dragged across the lash line.
Scotch tape was Kirbie Johnson’s secret for easily removing excess or errant glitter. She recommended a rosy pink lipstick, such as Urban Decay’s Lipstick Revolution in the shade Turn On.
Today Show: Easiest Way To Apply Fake Eyelashes
Fake eyelashes may be popular, but they can be difficult to apply. Kirbie Johnson said to avoid glue and pop-ons in favor of self-adhesive lashes. Ardell Lashes are a brand that is easy to find and affordable.
“The technique here is you place them simply right in the middle of the lash line, and then use your fingers to really mold them to the curve of your eyelid,” Johnson said. “And then they’ll stay put all night long without using glue.”
For a more natural look, pair this with a winged liquid liner, such as Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner. Another way to apply the lashes is to cut them into thirds and apply them in stages. You may find that you need to trim a false lash before applying it if it is too long for your eyelid.
Today Show: Smoky Eye Technique
Savannah Guthrie said that the Smoky Eye looks great but can be hard to achieve. The good news, according to Kirbie Johnson, is that you can use a cold liner pencil instead of shadow.
Line your top lash line with a cold liner pencil, such as the Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘n Kohl Eye Pencil ($26, Nordstrom). Smudge that with your finger for a smoky effect. You can apply it to the Water Line under the eye as well.
Eyeshadow is optional and it can help to contour the eye. Avoid a bold lip with this look. Instead, choose something like the Nude Kate shade of K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick from Nordstrom. Go a shade or two lighter than your skin tone when choosing a nude lipstick.
