Dr. Oz: Dr Drew Pinsky’s Prostate Cancer Treatment

Dr Drew Pinksy revealed his recent battle with Prostate Cancer and the decision he made about his treatment.
Dr. Drew Pinsky says his life was going along quite well with two adult children and a strong and happy marriage, when he got the shocking diagnosis of prostate cancer. Dr. Drew says he feared it might affect his relationship with his wife, especially on an intimate level.
He explained that while many people believe the first priority is to remove cancer from your body, he actually chose a different approach known as “Active Surveillance”, especially since more aggressive treatment options can potentially lead to problems like incontinence and erectile failure. After two years of watching and waiting, Dr. Drew says his doctor told him it was time to consider more invasive treatment options.
Ultimately, he decided on a full Prostatectomy, which is the removal of the prostate gland. However, he emphasizes that men should not jump to ‘get it out’ just because they hear the word cancer because there are potential problems with many interventions, so timing is everything.
