Dr. Oz talked to Deepak Chopra about his new show Help Desk and he took questions from the audience about keeping weight off and letting go of anger.
Deepak Chopra and his son Gotham go all over the country in their show Help Desk, collaborating to take spiritual teaching where it’s needed most: the streets. On the street, they talk to real people with real questions and Deepak and a team of other experts help them out.
Gotham told Dr. Oz he had a lot of fun growing up with Deepak as his father. He said that his dad was a great parent and he taught him not to take life too seriously and not to transfer his stress to his children.
Dr. Oz: Deepak Chopra Keeping Weight Off
Lisa was in the audience and she had a question. She’s preparing for weight loss surgery and she wanted to know how to prepare her mind mentally for the surgery beforehand and for keeping the weight off after.
Deepak encouraged Lisa and everyone in the audience to put their hand over their stomach. He said people should gauge where they are right now. If you’re totally famished, you’re a 1. If you’re totally stuffed like after Thanksgiving dinner, that’s a 10. Deepak said people should only eat when they’re a 2 or 3 and stop when they’re a 5 or 6. Practice body awareness. Don’t fill up your stomach, leave about one third for digestion.
Dr. Oz: Deepak Chopra Letting Things Go
Kyla joined Dr. Oz over Skype from Maryland. She wondered how to let things go when she’s angry. She said she’ll hold in anger and disappoint until she explodes. She has panic attacks and grind her teeth at night.
Deepak said anger is remembered pain. Kyla didn’t deal with it in the past, now it’s coming up as anger. Fear is the anticipation of pain in the future, guilt is directing pain at yourself, and depression is the depletion of energy as a result of these things. Deepak said Kyla needs to get in touch with her pain, feel it in her body, and express it in writing. Expressing pain in writing boosts the immune system and gets the issue out.
Kyla said that’s great advice, but she wondered if Dr. Oz for a note to get extra vacation time, too. Dr. Oz said they would do both, just to be sure.
