Doctor Oz did a segment on the Best Time of Day To Do Anything! When is the best time to cheat on your diet? When is the best time to schedule surgery? When is the best time to avoid dying? When is the best time to avoid heart attacks? Dr Oz answered all of these important questions! There is an actual science behind how all of these work, and they can dramatically improve your health. Internal clocks or Chronobiology is crucial to understanding our bodies. Did you ever wonder why more babies are born in the middle of the night? Or why there are more car accidents at 2 pm? Well, in the middle of the night, you are most relaxed, which makes it a great time to give birth. From your pain threshold to the viscosity of your blood to your body temperature to your lung capacity, all of these differ throughout the day.
Best Time to Avoid Heart Attacks
Dr Oz said that the number 1 killer in women is heart attacks. So when are heart attacks most likely to strike? Dr Oz said he often gets calls saying that a lady fell in the bathroom in the morning and died… and his first reaction is always that it was most likely a heart attack. A woman is three times more likely to have a heart attack in the morning than in the evening.
Causes of Heart Attacks in the Morning
1. Your blood pressure is high in the morning, and continues rising into the early afternoon. And this can destroy your blood vessels and cause problems.
2. Blood vessels are stiffer in the morning, and when they are stiff and rigid, they form scars which need to heal. However, if your blood is sticky, a scab can form and block off the artery altogether, causing a heart attack.
3. Stickiness of blood is the third cause of heart attacks in the morning, because if your blood is like water and flows easily, then you are less likely to form a scab that won’t pass.
Dr Oz’s assistant said that maybe women should just not get out of bed and go to the bathroom first thing in the morning. But Dr Oz said that if you do that, you can just die in bed which happens a lot as well. The average heart pumps 8 tons of blood a day, but if you have a heart attack, your heart becomes bigger, scarred and much less efficient.
So what is the best time of day to prevent heart attacks? Dr Oz said that 10 pm, just before you go to bed, is the best time of day to prevent a heart attack.
3 Steps to Prevent Heart Attacks:
1. Take pills at night – all pills, not just baby aspirin. So this means taking the following at night: baby aspirin (to keep your blood watery), calcium, magnesium (dilates your arteries to keep them from being stiff), blood pressure medication, and cholesterol medication (which keeps your liver from producing cholesterol which is mainly done at night). Dr Oz said that multi-vitamins are best taken throughout the day – one in the morning and one in the evening for example.
2. Use dental floss at night, because your mouth does not make as much saliva at night so there is even more bacteria… and dental health can impact heart health.
3. Don’t eat a big meal for dinner, get a good night’s sleep (which means that you need 20 minutes of sun during the day), and avoid nightmares. Dr Oz said that nightmares are like a stress test that jack’s up your blood vessels, so listen to music or have relaxation before you go to bed.
