Admit it, we’re all guilty of posting only the best pictures on social media, to make our lives and events seem as good as possible to all those paying attention. For example, Dr Oz shared a picture of him fishing wth his son Oliver, holding a large fish. The actual salmon was only about as big as his forearm, but when he held it close to the camera, it looked as big as his leg!

Dr Oz then spoke to a couple in the audience who shared a picture of themselves on vacation. They’re posing in shallow water of the ocen withh a cruise ship in the background. It’s a stunning photo but the woman said there was actually a horror story behind the picture. They went on a snorkeling, scooter escursion while on vacation to the bahamas. Her bathing suit got caught on the inside of the motor of the scooter and all of the sudden she was surrounded by barracudas!
Dr Oz then spoke to Patty who shared a picture of Santa Clause with four boys. Patty explained that every year they have someone come to their house dressed up as Santa. This past year it was the grandfather’s job to dress up as Santa, but he had too many glasses of eggnog so he was practically a drunk Santa! The kids were even hiding from him!
Dr Oz: Could You Go Without A Shower?
Did you know women spend 136 days over the course of their lifetime, “getting ready.” Dr Oz asked if you only had time to do one thing, which would you choose: taking a shower or playing a board game with your kids? Approximately 64% said they would skip the shower! Dr Oz then asked three busy women to help with a social experiement called “the showering less project.” Could they go five full days without showering?
The three women joined the show, unshowered, and said they were hesitant and worried about not smelling or looking their best. Hilariously enough, one woman had glitter in her bag and accidentally got it all over herself on the first day and was still glittering all over because of her inability to shower! Dr Oz said it was actually typical, years ago, to only shower once a week.
Dr Oz: Five Days Without Showering
The three women kept a video diary so that we could all see what their weeks were really like and how they spent their extra time. One woman said she felt sad at one point knowing she could wash her clothes but she couldn’t wash herself. They struggled with itchy, greasy hair, and some skin issues, but they had an extra three or so hours to spend time with their families or take time for themselves.
One woman couldn’t make it and by day five she showered because she was so distracted by her inability to shower. She even wore extra clothes because she was concerned about how she was smelling.
Valorie Burton, a life coach, explained that perfectionism is based in fear, and we have to stop making decisions based on other’s expectations. Only you know what works for you. One woman said the experience humbled her and made her more grateful. She learned she didn’t have to be perfect all the time. Dr Oz then gave the women permission to shower! Yay!
Dr Oz: “Love Your Lines” Stretchmark Campaign
Finally, Dr Oz shined a light on a campaign called “love your lines” which is an Instagram account that applauds women with stretch marks, saying they’re natural and beautiful. Dr Oz said an estimated 80% of people have stretch marks caused by rapid growth, hormonal changes, and many other reasons. Dr Oz said to look at them as a road map.
