One audience member explained that the unknown is a bit exciting. Dr Oz explained that some psychologists refer to the phenomenon as benign masochism. It’s a term used to describe activities that are unpleasant but seem to be irresistible. The reason, according to experts, is that our brain perceives those activities as a threat, but once it realizes there isn’t a real danger, it relaxes and calms down, bringing you pleasure. Somewhat like a “safe threat” because you’re tempting your body.
