Whoopi Goldberg says it was two children with cystic fibrosis who inspired her to recently quit smoking.
Whoopi Goldberg tells Dr. Oz the first major health decision she made came back in November of 2013 when she realized her weight had soared to 215 pounds and she needed to make a change.
She started following Rocco Dispirito’s Pound a Day Diet and since then has lost around 30 pounds! The next big health decision Whoopi made was to quit smoking cigarettes. She says Dr. Oz has been harping on her for years to kick the habit, but it wasn’t until recently she finally decided to stop lighting up.
Dr Oz: What Inspired Whoopi Goldberg to Quit Smoking?
Whoopi Goldberg says that while she does not feel like cigarettes got her through challenges in life she does believe they saved other people from her, but it took her 50 years to realize she needed to quit.
She says it was two kids with Cystic Fibrosis who inspired her to give up cigarettes, but one in particular when he made the simple statement of, “I just want to breathe like a normal person,” which struck Whoopi in a powerful way. She tells Dr. Oz that one kid was literally the reason she quit smoking and asked others to join her via Twitter because she believes that nobody should ever take their ability to breathe “normal” for granted.
As an unexpected surprise, Dr. Oz brought both of the children who inspired Whoopi Goldberg to quit smoking out on stage! They were both sweet and adorable and very proud to have inspired Whoopi, and several other people, to quit smoking.
