Dr. Oz: How Can We Have a Health Do-Over? Weight Loss & Eating Right

Dr. Oz: Health Do-Over

Dr. Oz talked about people who wish they could have a health do-over. If you’ve been living a bad health lifestyle for a long time, how can you hit the restart button and try again?

Christine is a woman wishing for the health restart button. She’s 39, a wife, and a mother of three children. She wants a health do-over because she grew up eating fried foods and drinking lots of soda. She ate a lot of candy as a kid and even now as an adult, she enjoys ice cream. This lifestyle has given her high blood pressure and diabetes.

She showed her medicine cabinet full of insulin, high blood pressure meds, water pills, and her acid reflux medication. Her cardiologist told her if she didn’t lose 50 pounds, she has a high chance of dying. She’s tried a lot of diets, but she always gains the weight back.

She wants to be a good role model for her children, but she’s not sure how. She wants to get back on track in time for her 40th birthday.

Dr. Oz: Health Spiraling Out of Control

Christine said if her health hadn’t spiraled out of control, she would feel happy, have more energy, and her children would see a better mom. She wakes up every day exhausted because the weight takes a toll. She wants to be a better mom and a better person.

She isn’t sure how to make a change. She’s from a Spanish family and beans and rice are the go-to meal for her. They’re easy and simple to throw together. She needs more vegetables, but they often go bad at her house. She isn’t sure how to change her life for the better.

Dr. Oz: You Can Change Your High Health Numbers

Dr. Oz took her to the Truth Tube to see her numbers. Christine needs meds for her high blood pressure and her blood sugar is high. Her CRP is also high, which is a number that measures how inflamed the body is. Her iron is also low, which means she has anemia.

Dr. Oz did say though that all of these numbers can be changed if she works on them. That’s the comforting factor. Christine has given herself a deadline to change her health. It’s only 357 days until her next birthday, when she turns 40.

Christine said she lost her mom when her mom was only 45. Christine doesn’t want to die young like her mother and she wants to be there for her children.

Dr. Oz introduced Christine to Dr. Michael Roizen, who had a health do-over health plan for Christine. Dr. Roizen said he was confident that everyone can get a second chance with their health. He said he believed Christine could lose the weight and get the second chance she wants.

The health do-over is something everyone can do. I found eliminating things completely doesn’t work. Start with the worst offender which for most people is sugar. You can cut several hundred calories per day just from beverages. Instead of soda try seltzer. Instead of high calorie coffee drinks, try tea sweetened with stevia or monk fruit powder. Herbal teas can give you the variety of flavor you may crave and can provide a wealth of health benefits. Hibiscus, lavender, rose, lemongrass, and ginger are all delicious and good for you.
