Dr Oz: Is Breast Pain a Sign of Cancer?
Are you a hyper hypochondriac who spends a lot of time searching for symptoms on the internet? Would you know the difference between symptoms to be concerned about and which ones you can just let go? Dr. Oz is sharing The Alarmist’s Guide to the Symptoms You Worry About Most and explaining when to worry and when to relax.
Dr Oz: Lung Cancer Risk Factors

Dr Oz says pain in your breast is more likely caused by hormonal fluctuations in the body rather than breast cancer.
Do you automatically fear the worst when a chronic cough will not go away? Do you jump to conclusions and worry that you might have lung cancer because that is what you find when you search online? Dr. Oz a few questions to ask yourself to help determine if your cough is really something to worry about.
- Do you smoke?
- Has the cough changed in consistency or frequency?
- Does anything come up when you cough or is it dry?
Dr. Oz says if you answered “No” to these questions you probably do not need to worry about cancer, especially smoking, since that is a big risk factor for lung cancer. He also says coughs gets worse and worse and might even bring up blood in someone who has lung cancer, so he has an idea of what could really be going on with your health.
Dr Oz: Chronic Cough Due to Post Nasal Drip
Dr. Oz says a chronic cough is less likely due to lung cancer and more likely due to Post Nasal Drip, which is the case for around 87% of people with a dry cough that does not seem to go away.
Dr. Oz recommends seeing your doctor if you have a chronic cough that lasts longer than 2 weeks because there might be a way to treat it.
Dr Oz: What Causes Breast Pain?
The next most common fear that alarmists jump to is related to breast pain, which they worry could be due to breast cancer. Dr. Oz says to consider these two questions as you think about your breast pain.
- When you poke or touch your breast do you feel any lumps or nodules?
- Is the pain more obvious during certain times of the month?
Dr. Oz is less concerned that your breast pain is due to breast cancer, but in reality it is caused by something much less worrisome.
Dr Oz: Hormonal Imbalance vs Breast Cancer
Dr. Oz says if you experience breast pain, especially right before your monthly cycle, it is most likely due to fluctuating hormones rather than breast cancer. He explained why this is the case.
- Hormones are always shifting in the body.
- Estrogen levels go up and down.
- Progesterone goes up and down.
- Pain is caused when breasts get engorged due to surges in hormone levels.
Dr. Oz recommends doing a gentle breast self-exam to check for any lumps without causing yourself any added pain or discomfort.
